Brick Tamland
I'm just not very optomistic for snow this winter. There is too much back and forth. Last year was supposed to be great for potential, and all we got out of it were three snows. Just the other day people were talking about January looking colder and stormy, but now it just looks cold for next week and then warming up again. I just wish it would stay warm if the snow isn't really out there. The back and forth is getting annoying.
triadwx
The new Euro weeklies out during the overnight probably have many easterners considering jumping off of buildings... It does not look a whole lot different than it did at the beginning of December so we are just going to have to hope for a continuation of the stormy pattern if this verifies...The ensembles still at least show some hope of a change in the Day 11+ range so I am not necessarily a strong believer in this run of weeklies yet. I do, however, blame this on a coworker who bought her first snowboard just before winter... 2008 has been bandied about some...we had a very similar sharp cold burst right at the new year followed by a dramatic rebound much like next week...we did see some decent cold later in January 2008 but I have not looked at that pattern at all other than knowing the ENSO signatures are somewhat similar. AirNelson39
Are you an idiot??? The ski resorts need the cold to make snow! They can be successful with only cold, stop being a selfish weenie. Yeah, but who cares about the cold if there is no snow to show with it? The only thing getting a rise out of that is my heating bill.

Shawn
I couldn't care less about skiing. The resorts bring tourism money to your state though. We don't have any resorts here in SC so NC is the next closest.

OK. well, it can be cold in the mountains so they can make snow. I just don't want it cold here if we aren't going to have snow with it.

WilkesboroDude
Cold and dry. That goes hand in hand fairly often for this area. Pretty abrupt change from extremely wet and mild though.

Brick Tamland
I see we're back to the "I'd rather it be warm than cold if it's not going to snow" argument. Take it to the banter thread folks, it's been done before. You'd be an awesome mod.

Well, it wouldn't be that way if the weather was not so boring and there was an actual snow threat to follow.

You could speak to your local government about cloud seeding like China does? Maybe a letter to HAARP could help too.
Carvers Gap
Surprise. There is snow on the ground in Tennessee above 2,000 ft. Found this at Elkmont in GSMNP. Even in a warm pattern, it can snow our mountains.

Snow Queen
Hey Everyone..I am new here! I have been visiting the boards during the winters for awhile now, and just signed up this year. My interest is winter weather. I am trying to learn from you all and enjoy reading your educational comments as well as even sometimes your arguments. It's like a soap opera..LOL Unfortunately, I won't have much to contribute to your expert discussions so I will try and refrain from making weenie comments myself. BTW, I voted for Brick..... Especially some of us that come from the old WWBB and Eastern days. If you think it can get bad here, you should of seen it then. Anyway, welcome! Snowless in Carrollton
Why is everyone making a big deal about the upcoming cold air ? I'm forecast to be 10 below normal, which is nothing unusual. Heck, i've had days that were 15-20 above normal and nights that were 25 above normal. Now that was a big deal. But, a high of 40 and low of 20 in January ? That's just a typical January cold spell.
