December General Banter

Wow, I certainly didn't expect my post to be completely deleted. Maybe moved to the Banter thread, but wow. Last week we had quite a bit of discussion about Pittsburgh weather due to a poster visiting for the football game. My one question about the Rockies gets deleted. I guess we must be in Lock Down mode for the impending blizzard.

FYI, "How much" or "How about xxx" questions are generally frowned upon in the discussion threads.

I'm very aware of this, but I was talking about the mid-range outlook for the rocky mountains, just as POWERSTROKE was talking about the mid-range outlook for Pittsburgh a week or so again. That continued for a couple pages, while mine was immediately deleted, not even moved. It's amazing the board across all categories, sports, weather, politics, etc.

I moved your first post to the mountain west subforum, and the wow why was it deleted here to banter. As iso said, how much for x is frowned upon in disco threads. Banter is a better fit for those type of posts and honestly, folks in the SE probably have no clue what the weather is going to be like in CO 2 weeks from now, neither do those who live there. If you see something on the wx side you find objectionable, please report it. I edited your last post to remove some wording.

SnowDeac, best advice is to find yourself text output from the gfs for the place you are going, google "meteostar 16day (closest airport code)". That should give you the text output through 384hrs, check it once a day to keep track of trends, and a more accurate picture as the vac gets closer. Also look at the nws point forecast there, and read the mountain west thread if an event pops up.

If some of the modeling ends up panning out Seattle, WA could see tons of snow in the next couple weeks. The GFS is honking the horn pretty loudly. It would make sense in this pattern for them but the amount of snow that will fall could be very high from a few events one after another. Pretty neat stuff. The mountains east of Seattle will be measuring in feet and lots of them in this pattern.

I don't know what to do w/ myself this year. I've been on weather boards for the past 7 or 8 years and during this time of year is usually the busy time. Even if we didn't have a storm, we were seeing something to look at in the future. This year the board is dead! I don't ever remember seeing in December the most recent post on the SE forum 55 minutes ago. I guess I just don't know what to do w/ myself. Weather boards have become my winter tradition. The wife keeps saying, "I can't believe it's December and you don't have your head in the computer screen." Hopefully things will change soon because I don't know if I can watch another episode of Storage Wars. (Even though I love that show)

Hopefully they will open one of those things and find winter.

Campaign for Brick, the People's Weenie. He'd really appreciate it and it would be a very worthy cause. As dedicated as he is to weeniedom, he's still yet to win the big prize. That is such a shame.

Unreal that it's only 3.5 days until Christmas. Time definitely flies when you're out and about shopping and not having much in the way of any winter weather to track. All that's left to do is the dreadful wrapping. :axe: Last year was rough because it was my first time doing it in a long while and I usually have my mom do that part for me.

Just concerning the GSP area, I don't see how we are in anything abnormal (temp-wise). Just going back to 2006, our recorded daily high temps this month have been on par. The Decembers of 2008 and 2009 were on the cooler side (particularly 2008), but 2006 recorded 5 days with highs in the 70's. 2007 was even warmer, reaching the high 70's seven times and settling in the 50's and 60's the second half of the month.

With the exception of 2010, each following January did not cool down substantially. Does the current situation look really look that different?

Spent the morning at South Mountain State Park with a few friends. Rained the whole time :) It was great. We even did a little swimming in the 50+ degree river. That was also awesome. Training for the tough mudder this February in GA. I hope the temp was like it was today on race day.

BTW, this shoes are killer if you plan to get wet and have to run. We did about 9 miles today..

I take it they did not have the sleds out?

I'm tired of all this rain, I have to use 4 wheel drive just to get up my muddy driveway.

18z GFS has a lot of rain with the next batch, starting in 24 hours for you. Tomorrow night looks soggy again in western part of NC, maybe even thunderstorms. Maybe 1.5" more. The low center comes right over Asheville area, so tomorrow night could get interesting for thunderstorms around here.

Tell me about it. I think its wetter than the Nino two years ago. Very active pattern. Better than cold and dry.
