Disco out of Amarillo, TX...

"WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF A LOCATION OR TWO OVER

THE NORTH TEXAS AND OKLAHOMA PANHANDLES RECEIVED NEARLY TWO FEET

OF SNOW."

Just read the am AFD from Amarillo.....talk about salavating! Someone is gonna have fun.

ALL ATTENTION REMAINS ON POTENT

WINTER STORM TO IMPACT THE PANHANDLES MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.

THE CUTOFF UPPER LOW OF INTEREST WAS CENTERED OVER SOUTHERN

CA/NORTHERN BAJA PER LATEST WATER VAPOR IMAGERY. OCCASIONAL LIGHTNING

STRIKES UNDER THE LOW GIVE SOME INDICATION OF THE STRENGTH OF THIS

SYSTEM THAT WILL IMPACT THE PANHANDLES BEGINNING LATER TONIGHT AND

LASTING INTO TUESDAY.

THE MAIN PERIOD OF INTEREST IS STILL MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING.

OVERALL...THINGS REMAIN IN PRETTY GOOD AGREEMENT REGARDING THE

EVOLUTION OF THIS STORM SYSTEM. THE UPPER LOW IS STILL FORECAST TO

LIFT NORTHEAST OUT OF SOUTHEAST NM ACROSS THE EXTREME SOUTHERN

TX PANHANDLE AND INTO WESTERN OK BY TUESDAY MORNING. LAST COUPLE RUNS

OF THE ECMWF HAD BEEN LAGGING A LITTLE BEHIND WITH THE PROGRESSION OF

THE LOW VERSUS THE NAM AND GFS...BUT LATEST 18/00Z RUN HAS SPED UP A

TAD...PUTTING THE SUITE OF MODELS IN QUITE GOOD AGREEMENT. BIG

PICTURE WISE...STILL LOOKS LIKE A PRETTY CLASSIC SETUP FOR HEAVY

BANDED SNOWFALL ACROSS THE AREA...WITH THE HIGHEST AMOUNTS STILL

EXPECTED ACROSS THE NORTHWEST HALF OF THE CWA. A STRONG COLD FRONT

WILL PUSH THROUGH THE AREA ON MONDAY...TEAMING WITH DYNAMIC COOLING

WITH THE COLD CORE LOW TO CHANGE THE RAIN TO SNOW FROM NORTHWEST TO

SOUTHEAST. A PRONOUNCED MID-LEVEL DEFORMATION ZONE WILL ENCOMPASS THE

AREA ON MONDAY TO THE NORTH OF THE LOW...WHILE STRONG ISENTROPIC LIFT

PERSISTS WITHIN A WARM CONVEYOR BELT AROUND THE CLOSED LOW. MODELS

STILL SHOW A TROWAL DEVELOPING...WHICH WILL ONLY HELP TO FURTHER

ENHANCE MID-LEVEL FRONTOGENETIC FORCING WITHIN THE BROADER

DEFORMATION ZONE. THIS ENHANCED FRONTOGENETIC FORCING ON THE

MESOSCALE IS EXPECTED TO TARGET THE NORTHWEST CWA...WHERE HIGHEST

SNOWFALL TOTALS ARE FORECAST. MODEL CROSS-SECTIONS ALSO CONTINUE TO

SHOW SOME NEGATIVE EPV ABOVE THE FRONTOGENETIC FORCING...SO

CONVECTIVE ENHANCEMENT TO SNOWFALL RATES WILL BE POSSIBLE.

DECIDED TO UPGRADE THE WINTER STORM WATCH TO A BLIZZARD WATCH ACROSS

THE OK PANHANDLE AND NORTHERN AND WESTERN TX PANHANDLE WHERE HIGHEST

SNOWFALL AMOUNTS AND STRONGEST WINDS ARE ANTICIPATED. COMBINATION OF

TIGHT SURFACE GRADIENT ON BACKSIDE OF LOW AND 35-50 KT LLJ IN THIS

AREA WILL SUPPORT WINDS OF 25-35 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 50 MPH. NEEDLESS

TO SAY...THIS MAGNITUDE OF WINDS COMBINED WITH THE HEAVY SNOWS

FORECAST /AND INTENSE SNOWFALL RATES/ WILL LIKELY LEAD TO PERIODS OF

ZERO VSBYS/WHITEOUT CONDITIONS. INITIALLY...THE WET NATURE OF THE

SNOW AND WET GROUND MAY MITIGATE SOME OF THIS...BUT EXPECT IT TO

BECOME INCREASINGLY PROBLEMATIC HEADING INTO LATER MONDAY AFTERNOON

AND MONDAY NIGHT AS TEMPS COOL...THE SNOW BECOMES DRIER AND MORE

PRONE TO BLOWING...AND SNOW AMOUNTS PILE UP. KEPT A WINTER STORM

WATCH BORDERING THIS AREA WHERE LESSER SNOW AMOUNTS AND SLIGHTLY

WEAKER WINDS /20-30 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 45 MPH/ ARE FORECAST. EVEN

HERE THOUGH...COULD CERTAINLY SEE WHITEOUT CONDITIONS AT TIMES.

. AS FOR TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS...EXPECTING

AROUND 15 INCHES IN THE WESTERN OK/FAR NORTHWEST TX

PANHANDLE

who cares its just weather, so many on here acts like it is the end of the world if we don't see winter weather. we all love winter weather but its not the end of the world. So many on here act like we get 30-40 inches every year. We don't but it only takes one storm to get our average for the year.

People on this board care? that's the reason they check in every day to see if there's any winter weather on the way!!! If not why check in??? You're right it's just weather! Nobody affected by it? Not even snow removal people? lol

i'm not affected at all. It is a bonus to us nothing we put in the budget and depend on happening. Excuse me for upsetting you big fella I don't want you to start melting on us. Actually it would be nice if it didn't get winter weather this year in certain parts of the state this year because there is one on this board that owes me a couple of thousand from the last winter. Maybe they will see what it feels like not to get paid

I think we all revert back to kids in the winter time. I know I do. I get agitated if there is no snow in the forecast, it's like I'm being cheated. It's depressing. When we spot a storm you know how busy things get here. There's excitement and anticipation, almost like they way it was at Christmas when you were a kid.

It's in ALL of us. We just have to realize that when we're in the warm periods, we're all just a little on edge. So before anyone starts typing... sit back, take a deep breath, wait 10 seconds, remember it's Christmas time, then post.

We're all coming up here for the same reason, and that's hope. This is my 56th winter and not all of them have been good. But each one was filled with the same anticipation when it came to snow.

Well said. I know that just about articulates exactly how I feel.

BTW, a quick story that made me a proud dad yesterday. My 16 year old daughter went horseback riding yesterday with one of her friends when they heard someone calling for "help". There was a gentleman, in his mid-60's or so, that was slumped over his horse. He had completely lost conscientiousness at this point and my daughters' friends was able to get the man down from the horse. There were about 5 adults around by this time and the only thing they knew to do was call 911. Samantha immediately started CPR and kept the man alive until the ambulance arrived. This was about 20 minutes or so. She found out later in the day that the man did indeed pass away and of course that's a sad ending to this story especially so close to Christmas.. On the other hand, I couldn't be more proud of her for doing what she knew to do. She is just an awesome kid and I thought I would share that story.

And that might be underdone. The NAM has 1.75" equivalent, centered around southeast Colo and southwest Kansas. It is a perfect setup for the upper low to nail them, and with a very long duration event. This is what a strong upper low can do when you're in the proper quandrant at the peak of its lifetime, so I'm sure we'll be seeing vids somewhere soon of the storm out there. 2 feet with drifts to 4 feet by the time its done. By the way, this should still excite snow lovers for our area because as long as we keep having these cutoff strong systems, its only a matter of time before somebody around our area gets 2 years worth of snow in 8 hours. They usually don't affect larger regions like last years overrunning and Gulf surface lows do, but what they lack in geographic span, they sure make up for in localized intensity. And honestly, the prettiest snows are the ones that drop silver dollars for hours on end, even if they barely stick at 32 or 33 degrees.

I couldn't be more proud of her for doing what she knew to do. She is just an awesome kid and I thought I would share that story.

amazing story. You should be proud of her.

I think I can speak for all of us when I say We are PROUD of her as well! It is unfortunate that the gentleman did pass away, prayers go out to his family, yet she didn't freeze up when someone needed to take action as a first responder. These are the type of stories that give us hope for our children's generation.:D

Wow that is amazing she had such a calmness about her. I hope she plans a career in the health care field. Being level headed and able to think quickly on your feet are must haves.Sorry for the loss for the gentle man she tried to save.

Thanks for the kind remarks everyone. She is a great kid. She has always wanted to go into pediatric medicine, Kennedy, so it's ironic you mention that. She made it a point to donate blood as soon as she was able (when she turned 16). In this situation, I just have a great deal of admiration for what she did because I don't know if I would have been so composed. Having two kids (a son that is 19), it is amazing that I thought I would be their teacher but as it turns out, they have taught me a great deal themselves.

It's amazing what children can teach us  I'm sure you are proud of her, just as she is proud of herself, and I'm positive that his family is grateful for her doing everything possible to help try to save his life.

Does anyone go to Zazzle to get phone covers?? I'm getting an iphone4s and need a cover....So I went to the internet to see what I could find....THOUSANDS of different cases on this website....so then after a couple of hours, I find 3 I really like....then I discover that any of them are customizeable...such as adding text....So color me ultra confused....I specifically went to look in the nature section for weather realted covers....ok....THOUSANDS AGAIN!! So I found the snow category....anyway...I think I could take the 93 superstorm satellite photo or the april 27th supercells or any of the fantasy GFS maps and create them to be a cover....decisions...decisions.... I am currently looking on page 48 in the snow section....better luck tomorrow. LOL!!!

Dixie,That was an awesome thing your daughter did!!! What a brave young lady! I admire her so. God gave her a gift....one I don't have for sure! I have CPR training, but in times of crisis, I often panic instead of using my common sense knowledge....guess that's what happens when you have the high strung personality like me.
