aslkahuna
Just as tornado watchs are automatic for landfalling hurricanes, so are fire watches for Santa Anas-especially this time of year before the winter rains (if any). Steve
janetjanet998
LA . AS A RESULT...WIND GUSTS AS HIGH AS 80 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE IN THE L.A./VTU MTNS EXCLUDING THE SANTA MONICA MTNS...UP TO 70 MPH IN THE SANTA MONICA MTNS...AND AS HIGH AS 60-65 MPH IN THE VLYS AND COASTAL AREAS OF L.A./VTU COUNTIES FROM LATER WED NIGHT INTO FRI MORNING. HOWEVER...WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE ISOLATED GUSTS TO 90 MPH OR MORE IN THE MTNS. THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE LIKELY LATE WED NIGHT AND THU MORNING...AND LATER THU NIGHT AND FRI MORNING...ALTHO WINDS SHOULD NOT BE AS STRONG FOR THE VTU COASTAL AREAS. NEEDLESS TO SAY...THESE STRONG WINDS WILL BE CAPABLE OF DOWNING TREES AND POWER LINES...KNOCKING DOWN OUTDOOR OBJECTS AND BLOWING DEBRIS AROUND... Ed Lizard
They've already had some rain events in SoCal, but I imagine it has been long enough that the fuels are sufficiently dry. Even if reports of a Santa Ana event doesn't inspire too many disturbed arsonists, hurricane force wind gusts will probably drop a powerline or two in a bad place. LAX had 0.90 inches on the 20th, but any dead fuel from before then would have dried off by now.
aslkahuna
With warm to hot temperatures and humidity values in the weeds, Santa Anas are dessicating winds capable of totally nullifying any recent rainfall in a couple of hours. nrgjeff
I'm somewhat surprised the instrument made it. Awesome! Potentially time sensitive: http://mesowest.utah...&timetype=LOCAL NWS out of LA is onto something. Round two is coming when that high settles into the Great Basin. Who says California weather is boring? This is beyond textbook classic.
