Charleston, WV NWS MIC Retiring After Nearly 40 Years of Service

Recommended Posts

Here's an article in this mornings paper about Alan Rezek's retirement after nearly 4 decades of service. I thought you NWS service folks would enjoy reading it. There are some pictures of him with his collection of old weather gadgets.

Weather or not: Unlikely meteorologist retiring

...Rezek, who serves as the meteorologist in charge at the Charleston office of the National Weather Service, said he's fortunate to have had a job he loves for the past few decades. Rezek will retire next week after nearly 40 years at the National Weather Service...

...He also worked in the forecast office in Washington, D.C., and at the New York regional office before coming back to Charleston in 1986...

Heck of an "idea man". Great energy and fun to listen to.

I met Alan a couple years ago here at GSP when he was pitching his "warn on forecast" program to us. It was a difficult sell and in fact it never really panned out for us. He was, nonetheless, very inspiring to listen to and his claims that "fearing to fail" is not a reason to be unimaginative or innovative exemplifies his whole spirit. He was also instrumental in developing aviation grids, which will someday be made and used by all NWS offices and the FAA.

He'll be missed in our community that's for sure.
