toronto blizzard
When I look at this pattern I just want to cry And to make matters worse, my Environment and Resource Management Teacher keeps telling me see what Global Warming is doing to our winters. snowstormcanuck
GFS 12z 252 hrs It always looks good 240+ GGEM at 144 looks kinda interesting. s/ws rotating around the PV over Hudson Bay creating some confluence over QC. Meanwhile, longwave trough is reloading out west. But without any kind of -NAO blocking, my gut tells me any type of D7 system would me warm/messy on the GGEM. toronto blizzard
That's a HS credit now? my goodness. Yeah I took it because I'm interested in that sort of stuff. But my god the teacher tries to brianwash everyone about global warming and how we are all to blame for it.
daddylonglegs
Lake Michigan will be frozen solid by Jan 15...bank it I would lock in the GFS at 252... its always dead accurate!
turtlehurricane
10 °F for a low at MSN, with single digits observed across most of the city. Brrrrrrrr.

dmc76
10 days into Met Winter. Hope that puts things into perspective for a few. Fooled me. Its pretty damn cold outside. with 2" of snow on the ground and salt all over the roads. Seems like winter all ready started.
Hoosier
No the pattern sucks going forward, no reason to deny it. But as I've said before, it can/will still snow even in a crappy pattern...sustained winter remains elusive though. Past Christmas is probably too far to get an accurate idea, but it's fair to say a change at that point is precarious. GFS has the AO going on steroids again...NAO remains positive...PNA negative...EPO, forget about it. Just bad signs all around. Hopefully January can turn it around. We may end up with more November snow than December snow at this rate. I give it at least a 50/50 shot.
SpartyOn
good potentials around Christmas.
Chicago WX
We may end up with more November snow than December snow at this rate. I give it at least a 50/50 shot. Those odds seem right. I'll take the under or less snow than November.
snowstormcanuck
EURO looks interesting like the GGEM by 168, but again, without blocking it'll probably be warm. The one difference is that the models seem to be painting in a reasonably cold airmass ahead of this storm, so I think there might be some front-end potential. But my god the teacher tries to brianwash everyone about global warming and how we are all to blame for it. Ridiculous. I was a TA in grad school and while marking papers I found it unbelievable how many 2nd year students were borderline illiterates. High schools should stick to instilling the basics in kids. Leave the social engineering to universities.
turtlehurricane
Thank goodness for the Chinook, temps are rising into the low 50s on the lee side of the Rockies in Montana and Alberta. That air is coming our way by tomorrow morning, should get up to nearly 40 tomorrow!
Geos
Low of 10°F this morning here. My backyard pond froze solid for the first time this season. Lake Michigan is steadily cooling off. Down a couple degrees from 3-4 days ago. http://www.glerl.noaa.gov/res/glcfs/glcfs.php?lake=m&ext=swt&type=N&hr=

Boscobel reported some unknown precip, maybe some sleet or freezing drizzle? It's starting to cloud up here unfortunately. The met roof camera is picking up some gravity waves on the leading edge. daddylonglegs
Clouds are forming because of WAA? That is what the NWS is saying ... They moved through here very quickly. I see they are thicker across the north. All sun again. 27F now. Amazing how warm 27F feels vs the 8F this morning when I went outside to the car. 40F is going to feel warm tomorrow. cyclone77
Coldest of the season so far early this morning at 7 above. If we had a few inches of snow on the ground I think we would have dipped below zero. Was completely sunny all day until a bit ago. Very thick shield of low stratus just overtook the entire sky. Hoosier
Barring a weird intrahour bump, looks like we won't make it to 30. This will also be the first sub freezing high this season.

Hoosier
good potentials around Christmas. I think signs are pointing toward at least not having mild wx. Hopefully there is a storm in that timeframe. Looks like something to watch around the 20th so at least some folks may see a white Christmas.
