FoothillsNC
Robert, Overall, your call was VERY good. In Johnson City, amounts ranged from about 3 in south Johnson City, to around 2 or a little better in north Johnson City. Erwin and Unicoi (just south of JC) ended up with between 4 and 5 inches. Looks like Kingsport got jobbed on this one. Hard to sit and watch good snow bands just off to your west and not get any. Oak Ridge had about 6 this morning (just north of Knoxville) and my friends in middle Tennessee (north of Nashville) reported in to me with 3 inches or so. My father in Westmoreland (near the KY line - north of Nashville) ended up with about 4. Thanks for all your hard work for us "tennesseans". I hope we can all cash in on an area wide southern snowstorm between now and Christmas. Take care man. David thanks for all those reports, and kind words. You guys have another shot overnight Wed. night with some snow or sleet as well, probably won't be much but some cold air could get trapped in NE TN meaning ice eventually. I'll be checking on this thread for more snow accums. this evening.
Carvers Gap
I thought that 5H vort would have got east TN more, but turns out it maxed out over central TN. You're still in for some accum. snow showers though Here's the Nashville report last night; SNOWFALL AMOUNTS THUS FAR FOR MIDDLE TN HERE ARE A FEW HIGHER SNOWFALL TOTALS ACROSS THE MID STATE AS OF 1030 PM.... HICKMAN COUNTY....6 INCHES FENTRESS COUNTY...5 INCHES PUTNAM COUNTY.....4 INCHES WILLIAMSON COUNTY 4 INCHES STEWART COUNTY....4 INCHES DICKSON COUNTY....4 INCHES SUMNER COUNTY.....4 INCHES WILSON COUNTY.....2.5 INCHES WARREN COUNTY.....2 INCHES DAVIDSON COUNTY...2 INCHES Foothills, I think your call worked out really well. I was just listing my amount earlier. The topography plays some weird tricks here. I think I had mentioned earlier that Kingsport gets raw deals on these types of systems. I used to think it was a local industry - maybe sometimes it is. Generally though, I think the Cumberland Plateau creates almost a type of rain shadow with systems that come from the west and especially w/ upslope snow. It is very evident w/ strong thunderstorms in summer. They will often lose strength here only to reform over Bristol when moving west to east. You can look at the radar and see it happening right now actually on a nw flow. I bet you all suffer from the same problem where you are - just not plateau induced, but Apps induced. What do you think? BTW I am not complaining a bit. That's just the way this cookie crumbled. We almost require a true Miller A to get in the game - but doesn't everybody! In Johnson City they will suffer from downsloping w/ Miller A's, but we usually don't. Besides, when we need snow we can drive 45 minutes to Roan Mountain State Park. Actually, this system was a blast to watch unfold from start to finish w/ low wind chills, blowing snow, and howling winds. Honestly, I can't remember the last time our local school system missed a day in December, but they did today. It's probably been fifteen years. That speaks to the severity of the weather this December. Like tnweathernut, we all enjoy what you have to say in regards to our area.

Carvers Gap
That's amazing you only ended up with an inch. I measured 4 inches in the area shielded from the wind at my house. My house is pretty exposed to the wind so parts of the yard really exposed to the wind had 1 inch, then had drifts in the yard up to 9 inches. Saw a picture from a friend that had a 2 1/2 ft drift of snow outside their basement door. Crazy how you can have snow amounts all over the map over an area. Just depended on if you got under those heavier snow bands. This was one of the better snows that we've had in my area in many years. WIll try to get some pictures later if I can. You know, we may be closer to 1.5 inches here. We live on a windswept area, and it may have robbed my yard of some snow. I only wish the wind would do the same thing w/ my leaves in fall! I do have some drifts of about 5-6 inches along a fence.
Cyclonicjunkie
Snowed in here in the Smokies, no power outages thank god. This has been an awesome storm here and thought I would share a pic with you guys. This is my truck that was sorta parked in a wind protected spot, although I think a little still blew away.
