HKY18
I'm down to 23 already, If radar don't pick up soon i'm calling this fail in my area. WSW --- for inch or two snow and maybe tenth of ice. lol Is this enough to warrant WSW ? ...WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 AM EST FRIDAY... in the wsw statement it says 2 to 5 possible i think. dsaur
Experiment says I'm just under freezing, but over here nothing is falling and nothing has frozen. The good news is my hot water pipes thawed out. My cats have been calling me "stinky" at supper when they wander in...it might be "minky", they are hard to understand when they are hungry. My dog just grins at me. She thinks it's funny that cats are so fastidious. Now I get to throw down a tarp and lie on my back in the water under the house to fix me some pvc. Guess we'll see how bad I want a bath I'd be more energized to do it if it were sleeting. Lovely sound!!! T

NCSNOW
24 with a DP of 5. Clouds should put a lid on raidiating soon. But The Road surface is primed for any thing wet to freeze instantly upon contact. Million dollar question is when/will we get any moisture here at the surface. eyewall
That is the weathertap winter color table, almost like weenie-vision as to what is reaching the ground, but it can be more accurate than the base one I have during these types of events. I upgraded from L2 to L2A this summer, as they gave me a credit for the money already spent on L2, and a portion of that used towards a future upgrade, which was a win imo. Our best case scenario is that the QPF gets in here earlier than progged, which trends downstream are encouraging, as is the case sometimes (most of the time) with overrunning events. If the bulk of this falls between 7am - 1pm, we would be in for a wintery mess, but that remains to be seen as it basically comes down to a nowcast at this point. Should make for an interesting 0z run though, as we are tracking a light event inbound, and maybe a more sig event in the 3-5 day... OT: L2 is just amazing on the 24" 1920x1200 display, to bad that it runs on the PC in the master bedroom, when my sidearm is usually the 15" Macbook Pro! Yeah I knew you had on very sensitive settings but I am interested even if it is virga as a sign the snow growth layer can moisten quicker than the NAM had progged. I am also interested of course to see if we can get some precip in here early for obvious reasons. Anyway it does appear it is filling in a bit more over Eastern TN and I know we had a report of flakes earlier today in Franklin, NC (SW tip). You are right on precip being able to start early on overrunning events. So far my call doesn't look like it needs to change too much but I will likely update the forecast tonight before bed. I have debated a CYA chase tomorrow since the models look a bit bleaker on the weekend event. The weenie in me hopes it is somehow missing something in terms of the s/w it depends on. Huffwx
Think this has busted. Radar has nothing much on it right now. Not looking for the warnings in KY, VA, or anywhere else to verify. Maybe our advisories will though since it doesnt take much freezing rain to cause big problems. Check the sim radar from the 12z NAM and you'll see its rather close. -- Look at the -5 c h85 temps and then +10c from Texas surging east.

FoothillsNC
awaiting here for the first flakes or pellets. Hopefully not past 11 as I'm not staying up. Looking at the surface map, theres a high over eastern GA and the winds around it have already sent south winds to most of GA and the Carolinas already, with dewpoints on the way up and wetbulbs. They're inching up hour by hour here, but that was forecast. Strange to have snow sleet and ZR in southerly winds, but since we started so cold, it can happen, and is. Once into KY, the winds go east thanks to High pressure above them. I still think this is going to be a very good snowstorm in KY, western VA and parts of cnetral VA, with a narrow icestorm, big one, just south of that line that could get into nw or north central NC. Some valleys in western VA that go over from snow on the first half to ice for the second half are going to have a major winter storm, possibly some power outages. Remember those? Today is the 5 year anniversary of the western Carolinas and ne Ga icestorm in 2005. Temp 31.
Chattownsnow
That's headed directly for me... http://www.daculawea...rgia_master.php First post here! had posted some on easternwx forums when it was still around. That freezing rain is headed right towards me as well... Have had spotty freezing drizzle but nothing to call home about yet. DaculaWeather
Look at the reflection from the lights across the street from my house, the road looks wet. It's frozen. You can see it here (http://www.daculaweather.com/camera.php) or on my main page toward the bottom. I think the camera only supports 10 streams at once but flail away. It has snow starting then jumping the mountains right at 11 pm to 12 am here, then 1 am snow to you and all of western NC, upstate is sleet or zr, then a couple hours later the zr line begins creeping north to southern foothills and spreading east to CLT area, while the snow is oriented nw to se, as expected. I'm hoping to see some snow but don't know if I can stay up that late tonight.

Enjoy your snow while it lasts. 33/18 right now. Even so, the snow/sleet isn't really melting as far as I can tell. Amos83
A suggestion you should take seriously, calling storms a bust before they hardly even get started is a big no no so don't do it. Agreed Lookout. Radar is just now starting to develop precip into Tennessee and points NW. This "storm" is just now getting its act together. Sometimes we are too fast to pull the "fail" trigger. Patience people! Judging by the reports coming out of Atlanta the roads there are a disaster. Local emergency crews are urging people to stay off the roads, lots of accidents all around the city. My grandparents live in Cobb County close to the interstate and can hear car sliding around periodically as they get on the off ramps. All that is headed this way! ATkeL
I just went out for the first time in a while and found a nice glaze over everything... my car, the mailbox, and approximately 10 feet of my driveway that I slid down while doing pinwheel impressions with both arms and making those oooo-eeee-aaaah-oooo sounds we know from icy weather. Sadly, I may skip my trivia tonight due to the roads.
