Itunis
Any ice on the road in the Alpharetta area? Had some light snow earlier in Dunwoody and I will be driving that way in an hour. Not really, main roads should be just fine seeing how light the precip is. My driveway has a dusting of sleet and there are patches on the street in front of my house though. DaculaWeather
I think it's only going to get worse as the night goes on. Not that I think it will be real bad either, just enough to make things very dangerous on the roads.

QC_Halo
Noticed that the City of Charlotte brined "parts" of some of the city surface roads. I noticed the brine on the hill coming down Randolph Rd. from Wendover...then it stragely disappeared. The bridge over Sugar Creek was also brined. Tullioz
Here along the NC/VA border the 18z GFS seems to warm things up a little to fast, especially at the surface, but it is giving my area .6" of precipitation so it should end up being a moderate event up this way. Yeah, if we manage to get another batch of precip in here residential streets will get pretty dicey. It just doesn't look like it's going to be enough to significantly affect main roads though. I almost learned my lesson during that little bit of ice we got around this time last year, going over a bridge that was also a curve...almost didnt straighten up and would have crashed into Lupies had i not. With a Subaru none the less...

I'm sure the 485 overpass from 77 has 4 inches of brine and salt.
NEGa
ice on streets is a nightmare - no matter where you are (including minnesota). as cold as it has been, even a coating (.05 -.10) on the roads is enough for no traction...and even plows cant drive on solid ice. (im)patiently waiting on something to fall....can see it in the distance, buts its evaporating before moving in. dawson - quit hogging all the snow lol i can see it over towards dahlonega

Also I used to live in Plaza Midwood and knew all to well about that Sugar Creek bridge with all it's brine.

QC_Halo
Man, you'd have been REAL unpopular. lol...i know...i was thinking of that when i was sliding to the right. I was in a rush to get the cat to the vet and then myself to the airport. It was interesting taking off from CLT and seeing the progression of icing to the west from the air. Ive been to Lupies once...never saw what all the fuss was about.
georgiawx11
Lastest AFD from FFC http://www.daculaweather.com/afd_new.php Hmm... We've had all this cold air in place for a while now, and a low moving through the northern gulf ??? Sounds like a recipe for snow in Atlanta ?? Itunis
Lastest AFD from FFC http://www.daculawea...com/afd_new.php Hmm, they still seem to think temps are a big issue for much of the metro. If precip holds up I know MBY will be a mess (friend just called and reported he ran into ice at a Wal Mart parking lot). We'll see though. They seem to underestimate wintry precip. I don't see this being a major ice storm but I think there will be a lot of problems on secondary roads and bridges and overpasses. I wouldn't be surprised if many schools start late tomorrow or cancel.
