here is a report from atlanta, over 1000 accidents!

(WSB Radio) -- Ice-covered roads caused more than 1,000 car crashes throughout metro Atlanta and north Georgia Wednesday night, snarling traffic for hours. WSB

Raleigh will probable have that many before the day is out too.:arrowhead: :arrowhead:

Had a good shower move thru and now I can find 2-3" icicles. Still hovering below freezing at 31.7.

 i will admit i am sort of surprised that we are still seeing freezing rain this morning. i had thought we'd go above freezing around 4 am or so. temps are warming quickly with 40s in atl. 30.0 here now with freezing rain continuing

how are the roads over there?

The snow this morning was interesting. The flakes were so powdery that they fit nicely in between the grass blades as opposed to sitting atop them like they typically would. This created a rather picturesque scene with the grass blades still visible with the snow in between.

And since the ground is cold, every spot got accumulation instead of the normal grassy areas only.

Temp is still 31, just not moisture. The .01" overnight was enough to glaze lightly though. Congrats on the snow in central , northern and eastern NC. You folks are having a good December. The only snow I've seen is some flurries with the arctic outbreak a few days ago for a few minutes. For us in the southern, southwest piedmont to get snow we need to get rid of this westerly/northwesterly flow stuff and get a gulf low. Unfortunately with the big Northeast Votex hanging around, its probably clipper type flow for a while, which is very dry here.

Don't count me in that group. While northern Orange, Durham and Wake counties got upwards of 2" of snow on the 4th, I got a little under half an inch. Today about a quarter it looks like. Unless the models switch around for this weekend, looks unlikely for me to see much more until (if) the pattern reloads.

Driveway is slick. Fixing to leave for work so I'll find out. My son is out sledding down the driveway on the ice. LOL

I brought my camera home this weekend for Christmas Break, so I don't have it with me now at NCSU. I may take some pictures when I get back to High Point, NC tonight if there's snow on the ground.

This is from WRAL, but it basically is what it looks like here.

Ya can't ask for a more perfect landscape than that!!

Made it into work from the Dahlonega area to North Atlanta. The secondary roads had ice patches here and there, but for the most part the ride was okay. Ga 400 was no problems from Highway 53 all the way to 285. The temps were right at 32f. By the time I got to work, it was 34.. No worries!

Good luck to all! Be safe!

Did you really? I thought you lived near Estes... I got a solid 2" near Timberlyne and about 2.5" at my dad's just barely north of town -- know where Sunrise is? Near Duke Forest.

Just got a call from my grandmother in Lumberton saying an SUV was overturned about a mile from her house. There was a decent amount of ice there, apparently.

Schools are delayed in that area, it appears. And delays/closures go all the way down to Marion County, SC, near Myrtle Beach. Haven't seen any farther south than that.

Apparently, Bennettsville/Laurinburg/Lumberton got decent sleet accumulations.

I know where that is. We did not get anywhere near 2". Must have been a sharp cutoff or something.
