Glad I mentioned (snow) storm threat this AM for Sunday PM esp for Albany and points S & E. Lats night's 00z EC had it and the GFS was trending N and NW; new 12z GFS looks like last night 00z Euro. Finally something to talk about.

the cold air associated with that thing, on the op gfs at least, is an abomination.

00z Euro ensemble mean looked better, though.

Eh...something to watch, but given the season, nothing to get too excited about. There's some weak ridging ahead of the system which of course will give the BL some time moderate and become a problem like is has been for every near miss this season. We'll see what the models do with it over the next 24 hours, but I remain skeptical about everything around here until we get our first plowable event of the season. The 0.5" I had on my driveway this morning was the closest I've come. Although, the landscaping crew around my office felt it was reason enough to break out the snowblowers...they must be bored too.

The 12Z op Euro is a very nice hit for ENY. About as perfect as you could get for this kind of event - now I hope it doesn't trend more west because this is another deal where we are relying on things timing out right so we get some antecedent cold air in here just in the nick of time before the low comes up.

Yeah it does on the coast.. :D

Well...looks like I'm gonna get suckered into tracking yet another threat. 12z Euro shows a nice hit for the Capital region...5-10" type deal verbatim, but would that sort of evolution work out it would likely be more than that. 12z Canadian had the threat too. GFS had it...but suppressed south a bit. Would be nice to get things to come together. I figure even in this crappy pattern, we're bound to get at least one more decent hit. Would love to be able to watch some playoff football on Sunday with snow falling outside.

sad.

I caught your wx-cast at noon. Good to see you back in top form :) ...and back here on the BB.

Hopefully this threat will work out! It got a little fun from about 3 to 5 AM today with the squalls and certainly a cold day. 12 degrees right now.....

TY. Good to be back (I think). Still having hand issues but I'll try and save a few keystrokes for this forum now that there is something to "talk" about.

3" of fluff out of this last little storm. Currently 5.0° on our way below 0 if the winds die off. The bigger ponds around here were still mainly ice free this afternoon. I'm guessing the winds kept it from freezing today but they should freeze over tonight.

Hum we've been froze up for 3 weeks now. Chenango Lake has frozeover a few times also.

Happy New Year to you and the family!!

Hey Andy!!! I have caught you a couple of times on our channel 554. Glad to hear and see you at least recovering. I have been watching for you to post. I figured until this stuck on stupid pattern changes, it's not worth the aggravation. I finally got out of one weather related company, only to goto an almost weather dependent place. I am needing some snow for my job, and the overtime would be gravy......I must admit, I am sooo happy at this job. I have every intention to make it my retirement job. We just need snow to get the process underway. Glad to hear from you!!! take care and heal up, so when we get a couple VD 07 storms a week apart, I know you will be able to school some people on it!!!

Trying not to get sucked in yet. Only 10 more Euro runs to go! 18Z GFS is supressed. Ukie says what storm. Models seem to be trying to sniff something out, but signals don't seem too strong yet. Snow sure would be nice. 1/4" this morning got me in the mood.

Yeah...tough to get excited for anything at the moment. 12z EC and Canadian had a decent hit...but GFS doesn't do much. We saw a similar signal from the EC/Canadian last week though...showed something big for a couple of runs on what would've been today...but GFS never saw much and the EC/Canadian quickly dropped it. Given that was a little further out (the 144-168h timeframe)...but still, would like to see a better signal on the GFS. But of course I'll be checking the Euro first thing in the AM to see what it does overnight.

OZ GFS and OZ GGEM don't have much going on....just a weak northern stream system with maybe flurries. OZ NAM extrapolated doesn't look very diggy. Hopefully when this thing gets over land, it will show up stronger than modeled and it will be game on. At this point my biggest worry is weak and OTS. Let's see if 0Z Euro does anything with it, but I have a feeling that this one is gonna turn out to be nothing.

Hit 0 degrees 30 minutes ago here. I can do without the severe cold. I'm not a huge fan of it. I would prefer 30 degrees and loads of snow all winter. Looking at extended forecast from NWS, doesn't look like much for awhile. Looks like temperatures get into the 40s this weekend with some sun! At least the lake will stay nice and toasty!

The differential in heat bills isn't so great that I'm going to turn down some nice arctic air. :) I mean if I pay an extra $500 over the course of the winter it's worth it to me ...I love cold.

But what is miserable is having no decent snowstorms. I'd trade the cold for one decent snow event.

Until you start getting heating bills. I don't know how any sane person could like iti this could. Its terrible. I can't feel my fingers currently.

0F was the low here. 20F now at noon.

No question we would have been -5 or even -10 if there was a decent snow cover.

Everything has been froze over, it just opens up everytime it rains (which is quite often this winter).

Never made it below 0, or even close. Bottomed at 3.5°, and was back up to 5.9° at 5:30.
