It's not far western NY, but I can tell you that the area around Waverly, NY/Sayre, PA is a snow desert. I understand they average under 45 inches per year. East of the lake effect, low elevations, too far west for most Noreasters, torched pretty fast on Ohio Valley type lows....

Avon, Livingston county only averages 50" per year..

snow has started again in ottawa, after a 3.5 hr debacle after the SN-> RA-> dryslot.

heaviest total snow accums with this system is going to end up NW of ottawa even, the models just could not keep up with the W adjustments....and todays euro at 12z was so far off, its pretty shocking.

You beat me to it OL. Heavy snow in Ottawa now according to traffic cameras

what a freaking joke. i simply can't win...no matter where i go, it rains. montreal has been a drenched mess all night, and i don't even think tremblant ended up seeing much snow out of this POS. ughhhh. so much tracking time wasted time tracking.

yeah that sucks, but MTL was in the failzone a few days ago, thats why i asked if you had been at tremblant, at least it would have been snow there

system definitely ended up being a POS, sorry to hear your trip to canada turned out so poorly, at least weatherwise

Maybe O.L. can get a report out of St. Jovite/Tremblant area ...but my guess is they did ok ..packed powder for sure. If it had snowed in Montreal, Tremblant might have been more fringed.

Sorry to hear about the bust up there. I imagine Montreal is losing its snowpack due to this too.

I'm off to Muskoka for the day tomorrow. Looks like they've had quite a bit out of this - Muskoka irport has been reporting moderate snow for the past several hours. Hoping for some good winter photography opportunities!

I think he is going to Tremblant tomorrow. It should be a beautiful arctic day with a half foot at least of new snow. No worries. :)

I was there during a fun clipper in late Dec. 1999...used to stay at an old Mom n Pop motel ..the St. Jovite Motel. About five inches fell while it was 55 and miserable in ALB. Reminds me of this winter.

So 7 hours later and still same thing happening that has been happening all day. 33 degrees and light rain. Didn't really expect much from this storm though. As it followed the same path as the last with no Canadian High pressure.

MIDNIGHT UPDATE...LACK OF COOLING CONTINUES TO PLAGUE THE FORECAST

TONIGHT AS COLDER AIR CONTINUES TO HANG BACK OVER SOUTHERN ONTARIO

AND WHAT COOLER AIR IS MAKING IT INTO FAR WESTERN NEW YORK IS BEING

MODIFIED BY THE LAKES. WITH THAT IN MIND...HAVE TRIMMED BACK SNOW

ACCUMULATIONS FOR THE OVERNIGHT SIGNIFICANTLY. THAT SAID...WILL

CONTINUE TO LEAVE THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN PLACE...THOUGH IT

APPEARS THAT THE MAIN THREAT FOR TONIGHT WILL BE ICING OF UNTREATED

SURFACES AS THE TEMPERATURES FINALLY RETREAT BELOW FREEZING AFTER

MIDNIGHT.

Ah so the lakes being so warm was actually a bad thing for once! I will still take a warm lake over a nuisance synoptic system any day. As long as the lake is warm I'm happy. I really only enjoy lake effect storms, synoptic systems are just pathetic compared to them.

it looks like it will drop couple of degrees by next week..

Well you don't get the mega-Noreasters we can occasionally get further over here nearer the moisture source.... 46 inches of heavy 10-1 snow in three days back in Feb. 2010 was fairly enjoyable. :)

But prior to that you have to g0 back to Feb. 2007 for the last 24"+ storm ...so it's not a yearly occurance.
