Yeah '94-95' was bad, but at least we had a great wintry stretch in terms of cold after that Feb storm. I think that was bad in terms of anomalies for ORH.

Who would have known the week of March 17th to the 25th would be most of my seasonal snow. That was 2006-2007 winter right there....lol.

We did have snow pack almost the entire month of Feb 1995 which was the only redeeming quality about that winter. We had like 14.5" of snow from that 2/4 event and then it stuck around for the next 3 weeks. Two days after the storm we had one of the coldest days in the 1990s...I think we had a high of 4F and a low of -12F. Wouldn't see that type of cold again until January 2004 if memory serves correctly.

We played catch up enough in the 2nd half that the winter ended up being better than several others of the past 25 years...but that Dec/Jan combo was so brutally terrible. We still finished with just under 50" of snow which is better than '99-'00, '01-'02, 98-'99, '94-'95 and the early 90s nooses winters.

'94-'95 is still the worst winter for me. '88-'89 sometimes I hate more...they are like 1A and 1B for the worst winters I've experienced. But no single month is worse than December 2006 IMHO.

I still think that '01-'02 was a worse winter. It took forever for a real frost and I remember driving down to DC after Thanksgiving and noticing that they had not had a freeze there yet. It was in the 70s into December and we kept waiting for real cold. I think the coldest day I had was in the teens (and that was the low). If I recall correctly, we only had 17" of snow which rivals our least snowy winters.

The worst part was that I travelled back down to DC in March and the flowers that I saw in November were still there. I'm glad that I didn't live there!

I pray we don't repeat that...

'01-'02 wasn't as bad here...there were a couple gradient snowstorms that screwed CT...Dec 8, 2001, Jan 13, 2002 and Mar 20, 2002. We ended up with 44.7" that winter. So I don't consider it nearly as bad as some of the others.

I didn't know that. I wasn't following things as closely as I have in the past few years. I was living in the valley then so it shows you what kind of gradient can set up. Dec 8th and Jan 20th were my biggest storms. My consolation prize was it snowed on May 18th...the latest I've seen.

Some interesting obs from the ride up tonight (finally made it to Rangeley!!!) Going by the car thermometer it was 68 near Hartford, dropped to 64 in the NW hills on I84, then stayed around 62-66 through most of MA. When I got close to NH though it dropped from 62 to 54 when I went through the first toll on I95 in the space of about 10 minutes. Was there some sort of coastal front?

Then it gradually dropped to 42 near Auburn, then rose and held steady at 44 until north of Rumford. Lots of snow lining the side of the road from the plows between Auburn and Rumford. Once I began the sharp ascent though it gradually rose to 47 at the highest point. Then oddly it continued rising to 50 even as I descended into the Rangeley valley.

There was also incredibly dense fog between Auburn and Rumford. I got a break in the area north of Rumford, but then as I went over the pass I had the densest fog of my life. I was driving 20 in a 50 for 20 minutes. I must have been in some low level clouds. I couldn't even see the side of the road to pull into the scenic overlook at the top. I almost had to get out of the car to find the entrance. Fog swirling all around the car winds buffeting the side.. pretty cool.

50 on 11/29 at 8:30pm in Rangeley !! I think it has cooled a bit since then though.
