I have had EZ Pass since like 1996, but I always lived right along the NY Thruway.....

Kevin gets to pay like $14 tolls on his ride out to BUF this weekend.

lol. I would only use it once or twice per year.

I can take Rte 2 into Boston/Cambridge. No problem. I go in pretty often that way

I rarely go over the Pell (Newport) Bridge, and when I do I usually take my mom's car with the EZ pass transponder.

A Boston gtg would be good

The way the Germans have dealt with this is by going "high end" on a lot of their products and into specialization, etc. They don't try to undercut some chinese assembly line worker because it's futile.

Well they also highly direct students into specialized areas and trades which some might say takes away individualism, but it is efficient. Over there they test you around maybe age 15 and if the aptitude test says you aren't academic college material then you are going to some trade school....at least if you want the state to give you aid. I'm sure you can take whatever course of study you want if you are footing the bill yourself.

You can only exploit other nations via outsourcing in favor of cheap labor for so long before it comes full circle and bites you in the azz.

Before you know it, the domestic knowledge base is inferior and you have fallen on your own sword.

India, China, Japan.....the list goes on.

They key is to continue to evolve and be dynamic\innovative.....static dies; just ask the mill towns of NNE.

You haven't seen tolls until you go to Italy. To drive for a three-four hour stretch from Florence to Cassino on their main highway (A1), tolls were 43 euro (about 60 bucks!) EACH WAY. Luckily, there were four of us to split the cost.

Wow that's crazy! I was just in Spain/Portugal and it was bad enough...maybe 18 Euros to get from Gibraltar to Lisbon.... I would have taken secondary highways, but time was a factor. Some countries like Austria have the vignette window sticker that you just buy once and that covers the cost of any highways for like a week, etc.

+ $7 per gallon gas doesn't help. Better off with the trains over there if you are just doing major cities.

On second thought...it was 22 euro each way (44 total)...still high enough. And yeah, gas when I was there was equivalent to $9/gallon USD.

It was well worth it though since I visited the village where my mom was born...and met with the family over there. Great experience.

I like driving in Europe ...the autobahn can be fun. :) Had a little Citroen economy car /stick shift in Spain. I probably was close to 40 mpg anyway.

The forecast last week for the PacNW higher elevations was even better...it had 7 solid days of snow and if you added it up it totalled over 100 inches. Those kind of weeks are fun!

Nice red sky sunrise this morning....maybe change is coming?

What a torch on the way in. Windows down. Felt nice.

The next 3 days may bring this November to the warmest ever at BOS. The good news is the current warmest ever is an analog used by some for this year. 1975-76 had some great cold and snow in December, January and again in March.

Some pretty lousy winters right up there too. Hopefully we can flipt the script in later December.

The whole pattern change thing has been beaten to a pulp. We'll just have to let the cards fall as they may.
