btw, it looks like peterborough just got into the cold air, as they're snow now. but it's +6 in kingston, +3 in montreal/dorval/pet and +2 in ottawa, under a cold rain. rain/snow line seems to be now between -3 and -4C at 850.

I'm wondering when the cold air will arrive in Ottawa? Will flash freeze warnings be put up for eastern Ontario as well?

It's not looking too bad for us tomorrow. Possibly 2" of snow on top of the stuff that's survived.

Looks like we have 2-3 inches here in Louisville Metro. Roads are a complete disaster. Local officials have recommended that people stay off the road for the night and tomorrow morning. Every school in the county is pretty much out as well as rural areas. I honestly think just about every kid in Kentucky will not be going to school tomorrow.

looks like it'll move in near 12Z, then temps dropping with time tomorrow. but the temps won't be dropping fast enough for a flash freeze.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like the airport is often low with winds.

I agree with this. WLFI always reports higher gusts it seems.

BTW, kind of a neat thing right now, but I'm close enough to the scraps of the LES band to be still getting some spits of snow. At the same time I can see the moon trying to peak through the clouds in the west.

I've seen light LES with almost clear skies before. I used to know the explanation but I forgot.

I've been busy today, but I just looked at radar and it looks pretty good for us tonight. Environment Canada is calling for 1-2", so let's see what happens in the morning. Looking forward to a nice coating on the ground.

I measured 0.2" as of midnight, but in the last 5 minutes the rate of fall has become borderline moderate. We got a nice little blob over us now. If we can hold it for 2-3 hours, yeah, that 1-2" is looking good.

Storm totals:

DTW: Precip 1.00", Snow 6.3"

MBY: Precip 1.08", Snow 6.3"

Its funny because the 6-hourly measurments throughout the day, DTW was a little ahead of me, but in the end we ended up with the exact same. Spotter in Riverview, right nearby, reported 6.4". NWS office in White Lake had 7.7". Will be interested to see what the highest totals are.

One more pic, this not so much scenic like the others, but really more showing an arctic holiday scene

BTW SSC, glad you got some snow, was hoping you'd get more. Really hoping you cash in soon!

Storm Post Mortem from Central Ohio:

Probably ended up with about 4" here....2.5 with the first slug of moisture sunday morning then another 1.5" last night. All in all not bad, especially for a northern stream storm that went north of us.

biggest disappointment.....once again underperforming, overhyped, wind event here. It got briefly windy very late last night but this morning it's calm as can be.

According to the gfs the next 8 days features about 1/2" of snow and temps about 10-15 below normal....back to cold and dry. Here's hopin for some surprises not too far off :snowman:

Thanks for the update and for your input throughout this storm thread. Here's hoping that as soon as this block breaks down, we'll be in for another threat.

I ended up doing pretty well all things considered, pretty much all thanks to the lake. It was a weird storm and i think i learned a lot, although i'll be careful about extrapolating too much from this event to future events this year because it was so odd.

Anyways, I really got soaked here with the first slug, i don't have measuring ability, but it was probably somewhere around .5" of pure liquid. The changeover Sat night took place between 8 and 9 or so, walking back to my place from the restaurant -- heavy rain, a couple cocktails later and catching a cab -- heavy wet snow.

My memory is foggy during the overnight, but the changeover was short lived and the dry slot of death rolled in.

Interestingly enough, even though 850s crashed hard surface temps hung up in the low-mid 30s and once precip became light, we went back to rain and stayed rain until 7-8 or so Sunday morning, pretty much destroying the inch or so that fell Saturday night.

On Sunday the lake really pitched in and despite a pathetic defo band which was crippled with dry air, we were able to squeeze out 3-4 inches.

Seems a general 4" is what most people got in our area. It seems funny that we did better than several areas to the north that were closer to the actual storm track.

If you look really closely, you'll see a patch of green right where Toronto is

Yeah, parts of Southwest Michigan BARELY qualify as having a snowcover too...we got such a royal smack in the face this weekend...rain, and then too warm to really accumulate Saturday night, then a dry slot, then just as the deformation band was about to move over us the second low stole all the moisture and we got "dry slotted" from the north. SUCH a frustrating storm. We truly are in the snow bubble so far this winter. I thought we were supposed to be in the prime spot! bahaha! In my specific area we still have several inches on the ground from the "big" lake effect snow event last weekend, but many parts of the Grand Rapids area barely have an inch.

You can have some of my wind...we get tons of it! Pretty much every day, especially in the cold seasons, the forecast has big "windy"s all over it..lol

it was defintely an odd storm i think.

overall i thouht the bigger effects from this storm would be in the MW than the eastern lakes, and thats the way it happened.....however, i didnt think it would be as impressive as far back into minnesota.....overall the cylogenesis further towards the north (for reasons discussed extensively in this thread) threw me off.

About 5 inches in Cincinnati, but the wind definitely wasn't as bad as modeled (typical.)

There's no doubt there is a lot of blowing and drifting going on in this area, but I'm not sure I'm buying drifts as high as 5-6 feet in the country as reported in this article from the local TV station.

http://www.wlfi.com/...ads-and-schools

I saw some 2-3ft drifts down by the lake, i can see 5-6 being possible in drainage ditches out in farm land.
