A-L-E-K
What are the winds like there? I would assume not as high as what the IN shore is getting...they must be getting rocked. GYY isn't even next to the shore. i'm pretty sure we've had a couple gusts well over 50. Still a good light snow. measuring impossible.
London snowsquall
Wow, you sent your own mom out into a raging blizzard. Cold. Not exactly but a good while after the meal was over and she seemed to want to linger at our house, I suggested today MAYBE wasn't the best day to stay for a long visit. My mom doesn't drive so we picked her up from her apartment's heated basement garage, and when she left, I helped walk her out to my son's truck and he drove her back home to her basement garage. Rick Mercer can find much better fodder than that.
on_wx
Heads up for the guys in Ontario. The winds have really picked up here in the last 1/2 hour or so. It's ugly outside now with lots of blowing and falling snow. Told my mom who was over for dinner - 'no offense - but it's time to go!' The same just happened here. It got nasty real quick! Winter has arrived
Chicago WX
Just got home from watching the disaster. Driving round town tonight is not fun...as the winds are drifting the snow all over the place. For a relatively minor accumulation of snow, this is quite the storm. Accumulations...I haven't the slightest idea, and probably couldn't get a fair number. Did have spots at my place that had drifts a foot deep...other places almost bare ground. Kudos Hoosier...I remain humble.

Chicago WX
Do you think you got anything near 4"? Possibly, but to be honest I'm not sure. Everything is drifted about. I'm going to try to get my best measurement here in a few.

Chicago WX
Ok Keener, I went and did some measurements. My snowboard, which is in a somewhat secluded area, has 4.0" of snow on it. I have not checked it since around 2PM, at which point we were at 0.6" for the day. I then went around the yard and did some measurements. Keep in mind there are a few bare spots and a few spots I literally got 9". Both undoubtedly not the actual amounts, but to show the varying depths. So yeah I'm not 100% confident. Hopefully Hoosier has a better handle on what we have received here.
Jim Marusak
Check out King City radar. Nice snowhole around Toronto. You can't make this stuff up. looks like there's a sympathetic lake-band forming off of lake ontario that is clocking the qew and the 403 between the Allan skyway and near the ford plant. they might be able to see the band south of the main HQ of TWN on the oakville/mississaga border, but probably not actually be in it. The other guys from ohio and myself have been discussing the fact that we really haven't had a snow blowing event here in years. Even with all of last years snow, nothing had much of a wind element. March '08 had about 30 mins of crazy wind and that was it. eerily still here....with light snow.

Nah, I don't think so. The echoes within that band are moving W to E. Plus, the flow is northerly, which wouldn't focus LES in the Oakville-Hamilton corridor. It's synoptically induced. But regardless, that was a nice little burst of snow. I was watching it on the MTO cameras. QEW was completely coated.

March '08 had about 30 mins of crazy wind and that was it. eerily still here....with light snow. The wind is impressive here, still it's even stronger to the north. The TV met here measured 45MPH gusts at the station. Combine it with the snow tonight and it's pure bliss. Pretty nice reflectories out to your east... Looks like it's riding I-65 and east in Tippecanoe Co. I'm a stone's throw away from the interstate...still getting some of it.

See Don Sutherland's post on the main forum? -AO returning with a vengence. That green ain't going nowhere.

snowstormcanuck
Hey, that was a really great looking snowhole! Congrats! Wait until it starts to fill in on the east side. Then it'll be truly spectacular.
michsnowfreak
nice pics Mich did you make that snowman? Haha no, but I thoughtStorm total thru 845pm imby: Precip 1.04", Snow 6.0". The bottom 4 inches of snow were extremely wet, and froze over, while the top 2 inches are powder which is basically blown and drifted everwhere. Once the powder and winds took over, snowboard became useless. You do best estimate (I go by whats in the rain gauge). Roads are a nightmare, its funny walking in the snow as it feels so dense yet you see drifts to give it the appearance of powder. Snow froze to the trees and is, for the most part, hanging on despite the wind. All in all really enjoyed this storm, much better than I expected. It is still snowing, so we will perhaps end with a little more. Very, very winter wonderlandish outside!!! it looked cool, like it was pointing to the woods. Snowmen were in abundance earlier, but once the temp plummeted, forget about it, if you didnt make one, youre outta luck.

snowstormcanuck
Will that be after it dissipates on the west side? Eventually, but I predict there'll be a few hours of snow on all sides with a hovering circle of death right over Toronto & adjacent suburbs. B-Rent
ILN @ 21:49 VERY CLOSE TO UPGRADING TO WINTER STORM WARNING FOR PARTS OF WCNTL/SW OHIO - AS WINDS AND THE 3-5 INCHES OF POWDERY SNOW HAVE ME QUITE CONCERNED FOR WHITEOUT CONDITIONS DEVELOPING...AND WHEN COMBINED WITH LOW WIND CHILLS /FALLING BELOW ZERO AFTER 06Z/...A HIGHER DANGER TO BECOMING STRANDED. VSBYS IN UPSTREAM OBS THOUGH STILL 1-2SM ...AND THEN BECOMING HIGHER /3-4SM/ IN SRN MI AND WRN IN WHERE WINDS ARE STILL STRONG SO THINKING THAT GROUND DRIFTING WILL BE THE BIGGER IMPACT WHEN STRONG WINDS ARRIVE. STILL THINK LOCALIZED WHITEOUTS WILL BE POSSIBLE - AND RECOMMEND LOCAL MEDIA DRIVE THIS MESSAGE HOME THAT OVERNIGHT TRAVEL AND MORNING COMMUTE WILL BE TOUGH. Then it'll be truly spectacular. i'm starting to think this snowstorm must hate the new megacity mayor more than anything else. but i think if you have work monday morning in the gta, you'd rather them have the snowhole than not. the gardnier and the 401 are bad enough on normal days. Jim Marusak
btw, it looks like peterborough just got into the cold air, as they're snow now. but it's +6 in kingston, +3 in montreal/dorval/pet and +2 in ottawa, under a cold rain. rain/snow line seems to be now between -3 and -4C at 850.
