This pic was posted in the WLFI photo gallery. The shot is looking toward the Purdue campus. The strongest part of the couplet passed very near this spot. Can't see anything interesting except for an ominous sky although there was a funnel report near/just west of this area.

Pretty low cloud bases there too, not as hard to get wind to the surface (straight line or otherwise).

76 mph wind gust in Mahomet, about 10 minutes from here also an unconfirmed tornado touched down there uprooting some trees. Here in champaign we had couple heavy heavy downpours. November sure has been a wet/windy month here. Actually, come to think of it, the rate were at could be the wettest month of the year.

Very very strange remark ....... BUT, it keeps on showing up in subsequent Observations, which makes me inclined to think it's NOT an error.

The Ohio River is about two miles away --- HOWEVER, the airport and river are separated by a non-insignificant ridge (it's an interesting landing if you're landing to the south because you don't clear the ridge by much --- a couple planes crashed into the ridge back in the 1960s on southbound approaches to CVG). Point is, one can't see the river from the airport.

Besides the river, and outside a couple of ponds, there is no water anywhere near the airport.

FWIW, I live about 12 miles from CVG on the Kentucky side of the river. A lot of rain, and a bit of wind, but the storms really weren't that much here.

Just my opinion but I think we were just a little directional shear short of having a big problem. Sfc winds south of the front almost immediately veered to 200-220 degrees. If they would've been 180-190 then I think there easily could've been quite a few strong and maybe even a violent tornado.

Quite possibly...or at least more than the 1(for now) we saw.

The degree of veering in SFC wind field is one of the reasons I didn't head out.

Mentioned it earlier in the thread but this setup really wasn't typical of many classic November severe setups. Obviously that doesn't mean something significant can't happen but it gave me pause. I do think the surface low may have verified on the deeper side of guidance - LAF got down to 998 mb.

I would agree with this assessment. I was out spotting and was near a couple of the areas of rotation that kept popping up on radar such as the one Chi Storm posted for you near LAF. It kept looking like it wanted to drop something, but nothing. My partner did get a lightning pic as we were spotting though.

I think that makes 8 or 9 in Orange County this year.

Edit: I guess the official tally is now 7 for Orange County. Dubios County to the west has 9 and Washington County to the east has 6.

The Louisville CWA has had a lot of activity this year. Yesterday's tornado was the 31st of the year just in the Indiana portion. The Indiana portion is about 3600 square miles so if you multiply that area out to 10,000 sq miles you come up with 86 tornadoes which is pretty incredible. They have been very good with surveys this year even in cases like yesterday when there wasn't a tornado warning.
