BowMeHunter
Can't be pissed one bit seeing its early November and I did get to see 3 mins of snow but watching that stuff to the west just tease ya is no fun but it was expected and pretty much every warm cutter ends the same way here like it did this afternoon. Prob good we didn't get a couple inches anyways as their is just enough foliage on some tree's to do some damage and I'd rather have power. I don't even care if it doesn't accumulate more than a dusting, I just want to see snow falling, and hopefully see that defo band make it to the lake w/o dry air cutting it entirely. Despite radar indicating basically nothing, tiny little specks of flurries/sleet are what I'm experiencing. Many in number, but extremely fine. Highly doubt it - it's been snowing here for a solid hour and we have nothing to show for it. I sure hope this whole band-dries-up-as-it-reaches-the-lake thing isn't a pattern. One last toothpick line going through with some decent flakes whipping around.

wisconsinwx
Band just completely fizzled...nothing going on here anymore. Unfortunately, with this event comes the start of my obsessive model-checking. With regard to your previous comment, dry air isn't normally a pattern in the winter, at least to this extent. It does seem like it happens frequently, particularly with rain, but the fact that the airport's average snow per year is now over 50" shows that we don't fare too badly. Of course, the airport and surrounding Milwaukee metro occasionally receive decent lake effect events, which probably account for about 10% of the snow. Edit: and if you count lake contribution to winter storms that result in a NE wind off the lake, the lake effect/enhancement contribution goes up significantly. wisconsinwx
avg dropped from like 52" I think down to 44.5 with the new update. Almost detoilet like now The problem is there are so many different ways they average the snow that I just say it is over 50" to make it easier. It is hard to believe the new update could take 8" off the average.

It is hard to believe the new update could take 8" off the average. I don't even know how they could measure good there even if they do manually? its all wide open facing the lake and with almost every storm comes drifting with the ne winds. I keep meaning to ask my dad to find out how they roll there with measuring as he works and plows there

The picture below exemplifies this. Check out the airport measurement (the little grey blob surrounded by pink in VA) - 11 inches!

cyclone77
Rain changed to wet snow around 9:30. Snowed like hell for quite awhile, but had a hard time sticking. Sure looked dramatic out there at times with the strong winds. Crystal clear skies on the drive home from work a bit ago. My weather station daily temp graph is pretty interesting. You can see a nice drop during the snowfall. http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation/WXDailyHistory.asp?ID=KILERIE2
Justin
It was great to see the first snow of the season today, one of the earlier ones I can remember in recent times. I really like the pattern we've been in and it looks to continue with a steady stream of systems ready to roll out of the West towards us in this region. Could be a nice early season for many if this keeps up. Next week will be interesting to watch unfold, but certainly looks like it might end up being warmer though than this system. We'll see... I think many will be pleasantly surprised before November is out.
cyclone77
Turned out to be a pretty productive storm. A little over 2.8" of rain over the 2-day stretch, and the first snowfall at the tail end.
