Snow has picked up a fair bit here the last few minutes and the temp is down to 29. I don't know if it's the radar beam not picking up the snow after a certain distance or if it's a real edge of snow on radar, but I'm hoping it's just over shooting. It would be a BIG help if gsp would switch to clear air mode like every other site. :axe:

The DOT kinda got stuck in a tough situation. I remember hearing on WLOS last night that the crews who worked the roads in Buncombe and Madison Counties didn't add the salt brime because the forecast given to the DOT was for this morning's event to start as liquid which would have washed the solution off the roads in effect wasting it. They also stated that due to the amount of salt and sand already on the road from the early week event, that they would just scrape and add slag as needed.

Obviously the precip for most everyone was frozen from the start. The DOT maybe would have taken a different approach if they knew that all along. Also by personal experience I know that each county does their snow removal in different ways. I feel like the folks here in McDowell generally do a very good job working the roads. On several occasions I've used primary roads that were scraped clear in McDowell County only for it to be snow-packed in a neighboring county.

Usually they do a pretty well outstanding job in this area, that's why I was questioning if maybe the only putting North Jackson under a WWA affected their 'lack of preparedness'. I was effectively wondering if GSP being (IMO) WAY too conservative on this event was the reason behind DOT being too conservative. I've got 2" of frozen slush all over my road and yard (which I estimate was 4" or more before the precip switched to rain at 5am this morning) and GSP is predicting an additional 1-3 overnight (last night was supposed to be half inch max). Surely that is more than WWA criteria?! From what I can tell from driving around earlier, most of Sylva proper looks similar. The whole area looks to be a charlie-foxtrot by tomorrow morning.

Had about 4 inches this morning and after a lengthy lull it started back up in earnest about 3 hours ago. Almost 6 in the bucket. Temps have just crashed since about 3 this afternoon, down to 14.2 will 18 mph wind gusting to 30 at times. Going to be a wicked night.

Congrats to all seeing snow. Had no idea so many would get in on the action!!!:snowman:

Heavy rain is falling here in High Point.

39.8 degrees.

Congrats to all seeing the flakes flying!!

Same here in Greensboro. I swear the luck sometimes. Maybe this will change over by late evening if the temp ever decides to drop. 40 imby.

Same here. Our temperature is dropping, though.
