TheTrials
You shouldn't be giving out such a specific location like that, wouldn't want somebody to find you or anything.I'm almost worried for your well being. I know, earthlight stalks me constantly, I have to be careful.
bluewave
who cares if its warm after the storm, except for 2006 where it was gone in five hours, tracking and watching it snow etc is the best part. In two days its filthy. So give me a nice day of looking at it afterwards and not have it be like Feb 2006 and then i am set. I only really like a long lasting snowpack in more rural settings. Around here after a few days it looks like a mess with all the salt, sand, and plowing. I don't mind the warmth before or after a storm either. One of my favorite blizzards was April 6, 1982. If I had a time machine, that would be one of the dates on my list along with the winter of 1779-1780 and the 1938 hurricane.

Guest Pamela
Heat Island at work, 47-49 in the city right now. Won't be dropping much more. Right now Central Park and LGA have the same temp as Atlanta, GA. Then it must have been an unusually mild evening at Hartsfield Airport since Atlanta average daily minimums during November are lower than KNYC or KLGA..... CAT5ANDREW
I can honestly say I would have the same reaction. When the weather is nice like this, you grab an iced coffee with lunch...roll the windows down and blast some music. Todays weather is better than 20 F and sunny with a stiff NW wind any day. Agree.I was in Philly earlier and it was just gorgeous outside, warm, low dewpoints.

winterwarlock
I have noticed your benchmarks for warmth are coming down. First it was 80s, then 70s, and now a high in the upper 60's is Indian Summer lol. No doubt it will be nice, but a positive departure area wide of 5-10 degrees for a day maybe two is not exactly abnormal. try about 13 degrees above normal
Sundog
try about 13 degrees above normal LGA was 10 above normal, 8 if you do the mean. Considering that most of us are in the 40s right now or very close to them and on our way down, it's not that warm a stretch. I'm not saying it wasn't warm, but I'd refrain from using NE or east central Jersey highs to describe the daily departure of the region. We all know you guys bake over there. Sundog
Record high temp at Islip 70 degrees shattering the previous record of 67 Islip records go back like 12 years lol. We always get this warm at least once or twice in every November. Odd for them to have such an attainable record high. It says something when the record high is only 8 degrees or so higher than your average high.

Yesterday's record of 70 F was 14 degrees above normal. I was mocking the fact that their records are very limited compared to the other regional stations. Plus the 8 degrees I wrote was referring to the old record of 67. I figured they had an average high in the upper 50s so I estimated that 67 is around 8 degrees above normal. I was a bit off. Sundog
a bit? Enjjoy the torch. Next week 80 at EWR? I don't care if Newark is at 90. It does not represent my area so it doesn't matter how high they go. I had a 10 degree spread for lows with LGA several times this week and they are only 3.5 miles away. Newark might as well be in a different country. BTW the previous record being 67 for Islip is pathetically low. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. But when the record is so incredibly short it certainly helps.

MJO812
The problem this month will be the -PNA. With that, the cold shots will be transient. I wouldn't be shocked to see the pattern fully change until December.

Anthony is absolutely correct, any cool shot will be short lived with the strong -PNA, late month is a gradual stepdown, just as most years the process should take until mid December. Next week has the potential to be record breaking heat...........and today is just splendid, who gets to 70 today, this Indian summer weather is just incredible! SnoSki14
The gfs long range is beyond ugly. Maybe upper 60s, 70s for Thanksgiving? We need a huge pattern reversal in a few weeks or it's going to be a very ugly winter. We are kind of due for a mild, ugly winter so this could be our year for a 2007-2008 type winter. Stormlover74
I don't think a mild thanksgiving means anything as far as January and February go. Remember 2004? we barely saw a flake until mid January and then bang, we had a great 6 weeks with 4 really good storms. The gfs long range is beyond ugly. Maybe upper 60s, 70s for Thanksgiving? It's a huge pet peeve of mine but we are never "due" for anything. Yes it's been a while since we had a bad winter but the winter isn't decided by a coin flip (which even if you got heads 7 times in a row there is still a 50% chance of getting heads an 8th time) so every year is completely independent of one another. Based on different indices we are obv able to make educated guesses as to what to expect but the outcome of this winter will be what it will be and not contingent upon the fact that we've had 2 snowy winters preceding it

Just because the past couple winters have been snowy -that doesn't change the odds for the upcoming winter.
