LOL--we put our tree up some time during the first couple weeks of December and it usually stays up till March. We put it in a cold three-season room with big windows that we can see from the main part of the house--so, it doesn't dry out for a long time. Having copious balsam firs around here, there's no need to go out and buy one--simply ski out into the woods, pick one out and drag it back to the house. Tis a yearly ritual here.

Snowed here last night. Got an inch on the ground this morning.

march? Good lord, I'm sick of X-mas By Jan 1st.

Negative, tday weekend till the day after xmas, I purge the entire home of anything holiday on the 26th, new start, drives Julie nuts. We have a few xmas parties so like to have the house decorated for the beginning of December.

Spring starts Dec 26th, new beginning.

We take it all down Jan 1st....mainly b/c we're hanging around the house that day with not much else to do...with the retailers starting so early, I'm happy to be done with it by the 1st...we go to Jones's Tree farm in Shelton and cut it the 1st weekend of December. It's so fresh that when I toss it to the street a month later it's still not losing many needles...unlike those Home Depot trees which must be cut in September

Drove out to Deerfield today. (Annual Yankee Candle pilgrimage of death).

The tree damage I saw as we drove down Rte 202 was eye opening. Elevation def. made a difference. Huge trees down on all sides. Big branch came down a coupl eof cars ahead of us and it had to be moved... 2 weeks after the storm.

Drove by Shelburne (hi MPM!) and through the famous Greenfield rotary of gloom (Hi Chris!!!)

Great day ruined by smelly wax...

I put mine about about 2 weeks before Christmas, and put it down around the 7th.

That's just about our time-table. Usually two weekend prior to Christmas it's up, and it comes down right after the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6. My Ma taught me this.

Pop in next time!

Warm start the tday.....373/30. I've split over 3 months' worth of wood so far for next year (from the trees we took down at the start of October). I'm about 1/3 of the way thorugh my splitting. Yup--a sh*tload. But, we're getting three more fireplaces lined this week. If we put another stove in one of them (have to be sure we have the proper clearances for clode), the extra will come in handy next year. Meanwhile, more splitting today.

hey, you're awake too...how was the sunrise?

I'll let you know when it happens. lol Loks nicce out there now though, lto sof pink and purple.

The sun rises late at the Pit in relation to "official sunrise" times. The hills just to my east wreak havoc with when I actually have the disc visible--a fair amount later than what's on almanacs.

It's good to jog, but you are very skinny as it is. Make sure you eat right. Cut back on the 40s.

It sucks getting tired really easily,I was never much of a runner/jogger...it used to take me between 7:30 and 8:00 minutes to do a mile but at least I could do it. My diet is something I certainly have to work on, I hardly eat much at all and when I am hungry and go to eat like 4-5 bits and I'm full...this has really gotten worse lately.

I only drink 40's now when the Bruins play.

Not to sound like a parent, but that isn't good. You should have a very healthy appetite. Between the 40s and vegging around...that's probably affecting your appetite. I know gyms can be expensive, but you should probably do a little strength training. Maybe the YMCA or Planet Fitness (10 bucks a month) is for you.

I'm going to start doing some push-ups/sit-ups and I have these 15 pound weights which I will use to do stuff for now. Lucky I have a friend who went to WVU and majored in sports fitness/management so he wrote some stuff for me to do. I'm going to start tomorrow. I just hope I stick with it...every year around this time since I was about 10 I always wanted to start working out but never stick with it. My friend said my issue is I start too high and get discouraged b/c I exhaust myself...he said to start slow and low and build yourself up to it.

Half the battle is getting yourself to do it. Seriously. Once you do it, you'll feel the endorphins kick in. People are so concerned with numbers. You see that all the time at a gym. Guys are always doing way too much weight, and you see it in their form. It is much more important to have the right form and technique, than to pile on way too much weight and hope you gain muscle. The right form >heavy weights. Same goes with running too, as Kevin can tell you.

Yeah that was a major problem with me too...worried too much about numbers and all that. I also wanted to see results fast and right away even though I know it takes months to start seeing changes take place.

Have fun

I actually didn't mind jogging in the cold this morning.

so many people want to start jogging...but they don't know the difference between jogging and sprinting...so they start out at a pace that's too fast...get out of breathe quickly, and then quit and complain how hard it is...

jogging is about finding a speed that your cardiovascular system can maintain for a good distance....

my speed is slow, my cruising speed for half-marathon's is about 5.3-5.4mph...on the t-mill i'm probably a 5.8mph cruiser...to put that in perspective, 6.0mph is a 10min/mi...so i'm slow...

you just have to find what works for you...

wheels are turning in my head...probably slept for 2-3hrs...that's it...so i'm up...football today, that's a good thing...it was 35 here when i got out of bed at 4am...

Insomnia?

You don't even need to join a gym. I was in the best shape of my adult life in 2001-2002 just through running, sit-ups, many arm curls. (your 15 lb weight is a great investment. You could probably do well with 10). Managed to do 7:00 minute miles in a 12-mile race. Of course, that was between jobs so I didnt' have a lot of other drags on my time.

Another thing would be to get a job (full or part) that involves a lot of manual labor. Obviously, physical fitness is likely the last considertaion one would measure when looking for a job. But, many things can help without the need for a job. My workouts today consist of my firewood activities. Trying to move large sections of trees weighing hundreds of pounds is great exercise.

Yeah you don't need a gym, but he's so skinny...he shouldn't be running too much. He should still at least jog for cardiovascular health...that's more important, the older we get.

Agreed. Your speed is like my speed...I like to keep it around 6mph or so. I'm not looking to beat out Ethiopians in a marathon so I could care less about how fast I am.

Oh well that's good, but hopefully you skate hard enough to bring your pulse up. Just skating around the ice at 3mph isn't going to do too much.

Yeah I usually skate fairly hard, although after I hurt my back more last winter it's been a bit more difficult, especially b/c I'm so much more stiff and it's hard to loosen up. I used to be able to fly fairly good on the ice but my body balance now is on the horrible side.

Body-build is not that important a consideration as long as you're gettting good nutritioon. Even if you like eating crap (my diet sucks, but i enjoy it), you can include a multi-vitamin to help the nutritional levels. I don't recomment eating the crap I do, but if you do, you can still manage to get nutrition.

If you do it regularly, you are 100% correct. Even a good brisk (or a long not-so-brisk) walk can give you enough CV.

That's another thing too, since I don't drive I virtually walk everywhere. Only seldom will I take the bus to work or if my mom is going to work when I leave she'll give me a ride. It usually takes me about 35 minutes to walk to work which is like a 2.5 mile walk.
