dryslot
Yeah I agree. Snow and cold this time of year do nothing down here, but we are getting to the point where we want to see some changes take place. I think we are seeing signs of change, but it will take a while. Until then, it's more weenie toaster tub posts. Yes, Its good if we are starting to see some pattern changes showing up in the long range even if they are delayed by a week or two, I would start to have concerns if we get to the middle or end of december and we had no snow on the ground here, Then i would consider sleeping in the tub with the toaster. Damage In Tolland
We're going to the promised land this winter. Lots of big storms and not ending 2/10! I've NEVER seen a winter get cold early and stay. Maybe 76-77 but snow was not as robust. 93-94 was warm till Christmas. 95-96 went back and forth all winter but didn't deliver decent cold/snow until the week after Thanksgiving followed by the pattern warming until around 12/9. 2004-05 went back and forth until the pattern set in mid January. Last year didn't get serious until the 2nd week in December. I remember my bday having showers with temps around 60 last year. Man you've really flipped the script from your thinking a month ago. Hope you're right

The other thing is that we have been spoiled by all these early start to winters, down this way. I think people think this is now the norm, but we are (due..I hate saying this word in meteorology) for a crappy December...and even winter for that matter. I'm in no way saying or expecting it at this time...just saying we should expect it sooner or later.

ctsnowstorm628
I went back to CT this past weekend and the damage on 91 from Holyoke, Mass through Middletown, CT is amazing. Snapped trees every 10 feet! HUGE snowpile in parking lots in the Enfield area still. Very impressive. Even down on the shore, there was a huge gradient. nothing at the beaches and 5" and small snow piles in my area 3 miles inland!

Yeah, You are right Scott, You get a couple of season where you get early snow and everyone thinks thats the way it suppose to be from now on, My guess is, The odds for a clunker are increasing at some point, And hopefully not this winter, We had one of sorts in 2010 up here when we had the retro storm and the extreme block over greenland that basically ended winter here after that Jan 19th storm, Ended up with 54" of snow here and all of that other then 2" fell before Jan 19th that year, (our avg is 70") That was the same storm where it was raining in caribou and snowing down in mass and conneticut

I never had that. I had a few come down pre Irene..but none during the storm and none all autumn. It's been a dream come true. Imagine the damage to the oaks if there had been the added weight of acorns on the trees lol

(Also haven't had any real Dec cold since moving here in 1998; no mornings of -20, no afternoons near zero.) What I've really missed here is snow in November. Except for a 7" storm in 2002, my biggest in 13 Novembers is 3.7" in 2005. That means my #2 Oct snowfall here is bigger than my #2 Nov event - odd. Of course, I should be careful what I wish for. 2002-03 was one of my least snowy winters (though my coldest here), and 2005-06 was THE least snowy. November snow has been a poor indicator for the remainder of winter, except in Ft.Kent, where it's almost a winter month, anyway.
