West Milford Highlander
Just about to cross 12" mark - place is a war zone up here - roads closed, cars abandoned, trees down. We are used to snow but this one hit us in the chin up here - caught people off guard.

famartin
NYC measurer already dropping the ball. 5pm Climo report only has 1.3 inches. We certainly picked up about 2.4-2.7 IMO Mt. Holly's observers are instructed that they only "have" to report at the 4 synoptic times and midnight, so that's probably the total through 18Z. famartin
2.8" in Ewing as of 6PM... approaching the middle of my forecast range. During the lull a lot fell or melted off of the trees, so that saved us a worse disaster. Now its gradually re-accumulating.

tornadojay
Radar looks pretty poor IMO. it should probably get better.. the storm is first now bombing out and the deformation snows, I think, will intensify, as vorticity advection increases and the 500 mb low closes off
SnowGoose69
yeah definitely not as wholesome or imposing as we expected. Then again, count your blessings, IT'S OCTOBER! You just won't get a massive well organized band on the back edge of a system that is not fully closed off most of the time.

bluewave
Got a call from relatives in Guilford, CT and their power is out and they can hear branches snapping around their area. Im doing research on large well ogranized snow storms and it doesnt need to be closed off at 500mb. Look at the mesoanalysis graphics, its closed off as high as 700mb. I'm with you, KDIX radar is looking good and W LI into NYC & NJ are going to be getting some good returns over them as the dry holes are filling in. Just need the column to get cooled again and the flakes should fly.

Is there any dry air at 700mb on anything you're seeing, I know sometimes in these systems some dry air wraps onto the NW side and kills the precipitation on the backside.
