N. OF PIKE
When i was in town getting supplies almost everyone I spoke to had major doubts that this storm would be as bad as advertised. There are going to be a lot of people caught off guard, especially in the cities. top ten new england wx dis as tah possibly?
baroclinic_instability
In reply to oceanstwx: Nice 4 panel you put up there. Synoptically these storms are always gorgeous. A pretty sharp tropopause undulation is responsible for much of the atmospheric forcing for ascent aloft. 12Z sounding from Greensboro NC shows the stratospheric intrusion extending to near 500 hpa. wxsniss
No we are screwed for a while on the coast. NYC's longitude is helping them out. understood. i'm more highlighting the discrepancy between the existing NWS forecast and what's happening. i think a more east, colder scenario, even compared to the 12Z NAM/GFS, is possible given these upstream reports, and that bodes well for boston metro. i still think we make warning criteria here in brookline. we'll see. certainly will be a very interesting evening ahead!! Indeed. My parents are even in the Boston area until 7 tonight. I told them it could be a hell of a drive home, but they weren't worried at all. Even a weather weenie couldn't convince them not to go, heavy heavy disaster in route.

CoastalWx
3 inches is when power will start to go out..that seems to be the threshhold Shouldn't be that wet of a snow at all, but maybe lower spots it will be.
CT Rain
Shouldn't be that wet of a snow at all, but maybe lower spots it will be. The hills should be OK. It's the valleys with green trees and who are ripping 1/4 mile S+ at 33F that are in trouble.
