40/70 Benchmark
You'll get a Dec '96 eventually. I don't count this as necessarily getting it out of the way. I think Will would agree too. Is it rare, yes it is rare, but it will happen again. Luckily for you, it does not happen too often. It was also an elevation storm, so that accounts for some of the difference. Glad we agree lol
40/70 Benchmark
Heard 8.5". No way....inflation. They prob had like 6".
CoastalWx
No way....inflation. They prob had like 6". Maybe compaction? Chelmsford has 7.5" and Dracut is pretty far north with some hills. I could see the Tyngsboro part getting that, measuring every 6 hrs with snow pants on.

40/70 Benchmark
My buddy lives in Pepperell, too...where they got 15". So should have traveled....I knew by about 7pm I was screwed, but folks kept mentioning the "wrap around" on the other end of the rainbow that of course never materialized. I did get a pretty good reach around, though. That is why I bolted for the party in Dracut @ 10....I knew I wouldn't miss much and I didn't. HIPPYVALLEY
imagine the carnage if the deform band pivoted about 100 mi east Would have easily added another million to those w/o power. Boston would have been a war zone and probably quite a few deaths from people trying "alternate" heating sources.
HIPPYVALLEY
Wow, Springfield and towns in Ct have already cancelled school for the week! They'll be cancelling vacations and going to class until 4th of July. Unless this was the only big storm of the winter...
H2Otown_WX
Heading back up to West Hartford shortly. Stocked up on food, gas, firewood, etc Ryan do you recall where in Watertown the report of 15" came from?

That band actually wasn't impressive in ne mass, but went to town near ORH and then down towards se mass.
HIPPYVALLEY
Most isolated air quality alert I've ever seen. Are people in Springfield burning tires and furniture in the streets to stay warm?

CoastalWx
I made the right call in bolting. It can snow like a mofo in Wilmington, but there are toaster times there as well. At least my toaster time is more due to boundary layer issues.

powderfreak
I'm with Phil. The carnage would be cool to see first hand, but no thanks to be put back in the civil war era over a foot of snow. So you are saying if it came around again and someone offered you 12+ inches and you knew it would cost power for a bit, the weenie in you would pass that up? I'd say he'll yeah bring me 12-24" in exchange for loss of power before Halloween lol
powderfreak
Not to this degree...won't happen, sorry. What did you end up with and what were your expectations?

I'd say he'll yeah bring me 12-24" in exchange for loss of power before Halloween lol for me, it depends on what "a bit" is. 1 day...sure no problem. 2 days...eh...yeah i'd do it. get past 3 or 4 days and i think i'm all set. i've got two little kids at home so it sucks being w/out power. plus, i like to have lights. and internet. i'd be surprised if others felt different... w/out power ray can't blow dry his hair, scooter can't do tv interviews for TWC...kevin is afraid of the dark so i'm not even sure what he's doing right now. powderfreak
I guess, maybe....wasn't that impressive there, either, though. 5-8" in October not that impressive!? I would think that anyone who got more than 2 or 3 would be impressed this time of year. Of course the elevations over 1000ft will do better but that's how it always works. Eastern areas get the band for 1/5 to 1/10 the times that the distant interior does. Seems like the advertised CCB and thunder snow never materialized. i'm gonna look at the few hours of radar i didnt' catch . i.e 2 am to 6 am but it looks like the models badly handled precip intensity over boston, Metro west and Metro north during "ccb hell" or what was supposed to be. Of course the elevations over 1000ft will do better but that's how it always works. well it's all your perspective. seeing a mega death band annihilate relatively low elevatiions (pepperell /concord nh) while you are smoking 5-10 dbz's if not less is tuff for any weenie to swallow regardless of the month. at the end of the day everyone realizes it's october....but even more important at the end of the day is you got screwed and i see this with the caveat that (if low elevations to his WNW and NNW) didn't receive the high accums .....i think most would chalk it up as an elevation event. but it wasn't that cut and dry IMO and the fact that the modeled CCB never materialized over the area just kicked someone when they were down (missing DB and sucking on subsidence) waiting the arrival of a CCB that never arrived
Ginx snewx
yeah GC ftw i suppose...though i'm also not cool with my nearest neighbor being 3 miles down the street or having 2 cars on cinder blocks on my front lawn. Sounds good actually. Would love to live away from any noise. As far as the cars go, nah. Scrap metal is at an all time high.
nutmegfriar
Amazing to me that West Hartford is still 97% dark. Windsor and Windsor Locks are 100% dark. In addition to the hardships borne by residents, a lot of businesses are taking it on the chin (at least the small businesses).
