Amped
Real 30+" OTG, I'm going with a conservative 27.25" for the storm. Quite a wallop. I declare you the winner because you posted a pic. I don't believe any of the other numbers.

ski MRG
That could be a weenie mound. I need to see perspective and depth. LOL, I tryed to shave a core sample out of the snowpack on the driveway. I was hoping to back light it so you could see the stratas. That's part of the snow fort now. I'll get more pics later and again tomorrow at 2k. For now I guess you'll just have to go by the numerous reports surrounding me, Peru, Plainfield, etc.

HoarfrostHubb
Holy ****e I was watching that rail pile grow last night, and it kept bending. Not drifting because the winds were from the other direction. Piles and piles My son cleared off most of the rails and the table when I was snowblowing... he is in big trouble

Clinch Leatherwood
In looking at the OBS it's cool to see...elevation was huge. Look how badly the valleys got hosed out west compared to the hills like Ski MRG. Of note to me was that no matter how cold it is aloft the ocean will win south of Boston back to I95 until the trajectory changes. When the storm wobbled a little more north than east for a bit it held the winds for an extra 60-75 minutes which kept the snow line on I95 before it flooded SE. It paused at 24/495 for another hour before rushing right to the coast. I suppose at some point in recorded history there will be a major snow south west of Boston towards Easton/Brockton in October, but it will take a storm that takes a looped track ENE NE N then NE so that winds turn faster. I had about 1/2" here. Gone by morning. Enough to make snowballs for the kids. ALL of 495 was snow covered from Rte 123 to Rte 195 on the way back. Incredible, 50 degree surface temps and it was instant slop. North Eatson had 3-4". The Foxboro border with Easton about 3-5" and it was building from there. That's very typical, the area around Borderland vs the area around the dog track are like two different poles. Power was out in North Easton until 5am ish. Winds here did not compare to 1/2005. No roof damage for anyone. Still very strong. I'm with Ray on this one 100%. No thank you with the week long power outages for a snow that won't last. It's so disruptive economically. One last note, WTF MA Highway? The term rock salt isn't literal. The trucks on Rte 24 last nigth were dropping rock salt boulders onto the road. It was dangerous, windows could easily have been cracked. I know they weren't prepared, but that was ridiculous.
ski MRG
I just talked to my wife and we are both in agreement. The live and let live attitude, the great outdoor opportunities, and the glorious snow make this ideal. We're coming as soon as our daughter is out of hs. Hopefully the body holds up till then. Good good. The more the merry.

ROOSTA
My neighbor across the street has an 18" trunk of an Oak tree dismembered sitting squarely on this roof. Street blocked semi-closed and re-routed coming up to the crest of the hill. I wish I could help him (79 yrs old). To heavy and if I tried to take it off would probably end up doing more damage. My yard is small, as are all up here. I did not escape the limb drops. What a mess! Amazed at the variability of snowfall amounts. It is what it is. I'm happy for confirmation and feel vindicated. On another note. I did have GEMPAK up and running although not all the libraries were built. I decided to download and set-up newer version and now nothing. My head is spinning. Probably end up emailing Unidata.

ROOSTA
GEMPAK is cool That will be fun to use. Scott I have no idea what happened. I did have 5.11.4 up and running. I was getting graphics and missing many whistles and bells. As in everything I learn the hard way. Now I'm stumped. Unix is not easy. I know thats the problem. I'm determined t get this running and add to a website. Unbelievable program i.e Simnawips site- tweaked to the hilt. Anyway don't want to divert topic.... Cold Miser
Picked up 6" total from this rare storm. Only about 30 mins of rain before the snow kicked in yesterday afternoon, but a 4 hour rain/ sleet change over in the middle of it all last night killed the chances of getting higher amounts. Good advance calls by the mets and enthusiests alike for this tricky once in a lifetime event. Hats off to all. I was right within my low end that was called by many (6-12), or in the middle of some other ranges called out (4-6), or even the high end of some others (3-6"). I will throw some photos up later. This is going to be a bad week for a lot of folks, no underestimating the economic blow either. Irene cost me a grand 500 Yeah, this is the last thing a ton of people need financially. People won't be able to go to work, companies will be closed, houses damaged, deductibles used. It's all fun and games but this hits tons of people in the wallet. Agreed. Last night was absolutely classic. At Bob's exit rain spits of snow 39. 24/495 interchange it went to snow on the onramp to 24, coated lightly at the Mobil on the highway. By Rte 104 roads totally covered. Off at 106 at the Charlie Horse maybe a coating of slush. Head west to five corners everything covered. North on bay road trees down, hook a left on Rockland and road was impassable in spots due to trees hanging down in the road from the weight of snow. Trying to find a clear way back to teh highway I headed up Rockland towards where it dumps on East street in Foxboro but turned around. Too many trees across the road, wires etc that were ready to snap from the weight. I'm sure that's not far from where NOAA measured 6.5" IMO it has just as much to do with ocean enhancement as it does the curved shoreline of Cape Ann. Provides a little extra land fetch allowing for dynamic cooling as the winds bend down into EMA. Still can't believe this was late October. I mean...WTF happened yesterday? Speechless. IMO and again I'm not political at all on this issue, but this is how I see global warming playing out. Adds more fuel to the fire so we can have these incredibly dynamic situations which in turn can produce out of season type events. I think we're entering a period of continued extreme weather events. I fully expect we are going to see a blizzard of 1888 proportions that when measured nowadays with the dense grid of observers will dwarf anything seen previously.
