grinch1989
It's going to be tougher on people because you didn't need heat with Irene. Lows in the 20's tonight and 30's all week. Plus they probably were better prepared with out of state crews lined up then as well. I got my power back late last night...how are you doing? ELCwx
What is really a problem is whole towns out and none close have power, gas, ATM, food, prescrips, etc etc etc. Bad as it gets in cold season. I remember the gas problems with Irene. There were lines 10 deep where there was gas before they ran out. I got home from work around 9pm Friday and took both cars to get gas and filled up two 5-gallon containers. Probably wouldn't have done that without the recent experience. weathafella
This had a pretty big circulation...like the Feb '06 storm did. I mean look at what the 12/19/09 storm did to LI. It's all about banding. Either you get a monster CCB, or you need to get int that band. H7 had a back bent warm front which is classic for this type of result. Smaller system but same idea was 2/7/03. BOS was progged 1-3 and got 11 from the band way NW of the low.
ski MRG
Jaffrey 31.4" and Plainfield MA 30.8. Unreal. Real 30+" OTG, I'm going with a conservative 27.25" for the storm. Quite a wallop.

HoarfrostHubb
I'm allready at over 25% of last year's total... and we are still only in the middle of autumn... Hope this doesn't turn into 1979-1980 Heavy heavy melting underway. Feels like a Feb morning with the 20" of snowpack ,but the leaves are still greenish (in some cases) Birds seem confused Snowblowing was arduous. Lower layer had many oak leaves and since the ground wasn't frozen, a lot of melted snow. Like using a snowplow in some cases. Weird stuff. Good luck to those without power. Blizz got his destruction for sure. Folks making tracks at WaWa
40/70 Benchmark
They were right in the pivot point of that band for hours and hours I have no trouble buying that....Jaffrey is a magical place.

Really puts it into perspective how close a lot of us got to being shut down for a week or so. Half my town doesnt have power, and as I said before, I have no idea how I stayed on, we're normally one of the first to go.
ma blizzard
Matt, what'd you measure at 440'? I measured 8.6" but I went out an hour ago and got anywhere from 9-10.5 on the grass. I think those are inflated but I'm not sure, 8.6" could be underdoing it. last night at 4 am i measured 8.2" depth but it was still snowing lightly ..i just went out in the backyard and measured ~7"-7.5" depth on the grass. I think your measurement of 8.6" is reasonable +/- 1" (for your area I could see as much as 9.5"-10" using 6 hr measurement increments). Here, I think the total was closer to 9" if you were to measure in 6 hr intervals

You give me personalized ski lessons and we have a weenie juggernaut between you, Mike, and me. No problem Jerry, I'll give you lessons even if you just visit.lol We should have some sort of GTG at Berkshire East this Winter. Really quite a spectacle last night. I've been in snowstorms all over the place but rarely have I seen it snow with such ferocity for so sustained a period of time. At times the air was just super-saturated with snow. Highly impressive. I had 12" on the ground at 5am, about 14" total with compaction Haven't measured, but the eyeball looks right in line with yours. My plow guy just came and it took him a lot longer to do it. I went out to talk to him and he said the snow is insanely heavy to push. Has to do it in half widths and is worried about screwing up his transmission. The live and let live attitude, the great outdoor opportunities, and the glorious snow make this ideal. We're coming as soon as our daughter is out of hs. Hopefully the body holds up till then. I cleared a spot on the deck last night after I measured 5.5" at 1am...and it had 3.1" at 9am this morning. There could have been some slight compaction.
