Well....

Someone should do stats on early season snow correlating to the winter

. Not sure what BOS ended up with but I have about 2 inches imby despite snow for probably 8-10 hours. Gonna drive out to metro west and northward to see the big totals. Wonderful storm to track and once again, the euro made GFS look like dog dung.

I guess 65% of people in CT are without power. That's insane. Would rival or possibly exceed Irene.

I'm not sure if I have power at home. I'll be leaving for CT sometime soon.

It's at 810K now, more than Irene. Keeps going up every time I look. They are probably not as prepared with out of state crews so it may take longer this time.

Just went up to 822k. :arrowhead:

Not only did it make it look like dog dung, it opened up its mouth and shoved it down the GFS throat.

Contracts FTW?

nah lol, 90% of my clients got plowed out, some had over 8 inches, i was the snow anus in Fairifield cty, and from hearing all these stories, Im so glad, my sister in Wilton has ten inches of snow, a tree ripped down the lines, and also the conduit off her house, looking at a minimum of a week without power probably 2, thankfully we torch in the first half of november.

If anyone needs help, let me know i will bring my truck up and do whatever i can.

Long term power outages are way overrated and having been through a few in my life, I'll never root for an ice storm, hurricane, or a storm like yesterday's (in full foliage). Outages were fun when I was single, but they're a pain as a middle-aged man with kids. The post last night about Kevin's girls crying when they saw their house and the sparks from the power line was sobering.

I just broke the news to my friend in Windsor that the Governor is indicating that parts of the State may be without power for a week. He had no idea and his family was assuming they would have power back on by today. He also didn't know that 800k people were in the same boat. This made me think that many without power may have no idea what is facing them this week.

Lots of people will be cold this week, so lend a hand and find somebody to help. I'm damn happy we got a bust down here.

I spoke to my mom in Springfield MA this morning. She got 11" of snow, and lost about 75% of the trees in her yard. She described the surrounding neighborhood as a "war zone" with all the trees down everywhere. (She then proceeded to yell at me for not "warning" her about this... which I actually did. :arrowhead: )

When she gets her internet back, she'll send me some pics, and I'll put them up.

I might be a meteorologist, but I'm pretty jealous from a science standpoint of not actually witnessing the good stuff. I guess this was how I felt on 4/1/97 in 30" of snow. What a storm...I still can't wrap my head around what the fook happened.

its amazing.

i always hear about your april 97 storm, and i am totally shocked by that one.

this one is equally stunning.

those 2 storms plus the 98 ice storm we had here are the 3 most anomalous winter events that i have ever heard of, at least here in the northeast.

that deathband from this storm was to die for.

181'....that is the diff between you and I.

Ok, but I wasn't alone in finding that to be suspect.

I'll take your word for it.

I can believe it... there was 2" on a nearby hill 200' higher than me when I only had .5". I imagine they could have had 5-6" while I had 3". Elevation was incredibly important in this storm for coastal people.

honestly it was just surreal. Usually we slowly ramp up of step down, if you prefer, to winter...and by the time the first significant storm comes we are more than ready for it. A part of me couldn't believe it would actually start to snow and pile up. When I woke up to almost a foot and a half I was kinda stupified. I'm actually glad it will melt this week (sorry Pete and others) and hopefully allow my kale and carrots to finish and then have a proper ramp up/step down. I suspect though, that we warm up for a week or two then have another snowfall before December. Have no idea what the long rangers say but that is just what it feels like will happen.

700 miles long, what's next volcano?, probably epic cold

I've never seen a single band that long. I was getting upset reading Pete and Mike's early posts about heavy snow, and we were just getting light to moderate....but then I looked at the regional radar and saw we were in the same band as they were and that it was stationary. I figured our side of the band would eventually strengthen and boy did it.

Just goes to show that it is about quanity AND quallity

Yep I am offering help to anyone that needs it, have chainsaw will travel. 830K and climbing nearing 400 K in Mass, numbers going up as wind picks up and trees in wet soils fall as well as trees rebounding hitting wires.
