Master of Disaster
For the guys here that make their own snow, any advice or lessons learned on whats involved with setting a system up? I remember seeing a thread on Eastern a while back on what was involved, and thats clearly useless now as a reference.
288West
For the guys here that make their own snow, any advice or lessons learned on whats involved with setting a system up? I remember seeing a thread on Eastern a while back on what was involved, and thats clearly useless now as a reference. Midlo can give you lots of input on this but basically if you have a pressure washer and air compressor you are in business (for small scale) and can build your own small guns for experimenting. There are lots of people who have built various types of guns from resort style fan guns to large commercial air compressor driven rigs. You need an air compressor combined with water to generate a nuclei generating crystal then from that you can add more water (depending on wet bulb temperature - dryer and colder you can add more water warmer and wetter less water) on top of that nuclei site and grow your crystals much like nature does, but of course you don't have the 1000's of feet of atmosphere working in your favor. Really an interesting experiment if you want to try. You can also pay the $ for a commercial style machine that will likely perform better than anything you make (unless you get really crazy) and be more reliable but they are some bucks. There was a forum that I ran across some time ago will have to see if it is still available, as it had exactly what you would be looking for with different styles and what everyone made and how they perform. Will see if I can find it. Dress warm and be prepared to get wet when you experiment.

Master of Disaster
Hmm, I appreciate the ideas. Why wouldnt just a simple pressure washer work though? Seems like its the same idea.

gravitylover
Hmm, I appreciate the ideas. Why wouldnt just a simple pressure washer work though? Seems like its the same idea. It will but the heads that are generally available won't nucleate the water droplets very well. Their purpose is to increase water pressure for cleaning purposes and to create the right crystal size to make snow you need incredibly small droplets. You can get the right tips to make it work fairly well though.
