make it an automatic suspension for the entire storm every time someone starts it. soon enough the message will get out.

It's really the ONLY weenie argument that pisses me off. +1 on your recommendation.

Got some nice big conglomerate flakes and slush forming on the patio table and grill. Loving the look of radar right now. Favorable pivot and banding setting up for all of us "non elevated" weenies to have some fun for what looks like the next 3+ hours.

I guess I'm half guilty on that one. I really didn't think it would stick to the hard surfaces. To my amazement, it started sticking there within the first half inch.

You started at night. Plenty of places in Loudon at low elevation saw snow all morning with barely any stickage. Rates... Plus sleet

Wow you guys did pretty good Craig, Nice.

Really happy to see this much in the valley, Dave. Steady moderate, to at times heavy snow, since 7 a.m.

There's an apple orchard in the farm that borders my property. Frequent cracks from tree limbs snapping all through the orchard now. Really a rare experience.

I drove from Leesburg to Summit Point this morning, left about 7am. Heavy snow along Rt 7 until Round Hill, then light snow at Summit Point. Came back a couple hours later and quite nearly did not make it back over the Blue Ridge. 2-3 inches on the ground and Rt 7 snow packed. Quite a bit different on the east side on into Leesburg. Sleet, wet roads.

That's true. I don't know what time it started. I woke up at 3:30 and it was still the rain snow mix and the temp had not dropped at all in hours. I got up at 6:45 and the temp had dropped 4 degrees and it had snowed about half an inch. I suppose it started around 6.

The factors matter. Just not as much as the ones who say it can't stick because there hasnt been a freeze in 6 mo think it does and more than those who use it happening as an example of why it often does. People higher up were closer to freezing quicker, got more mix, etc. If it started and began to lay on roads before the sun comes up that's only another bonus. Though the sun angle is not that high this time of year. I'm pretty confident it has not hurt IMBY today. ;)

this has been a great storm out this way. like I said last week--Shenandoah Valley winter!!

I've really been down on the prospects for this winter. But seeing this kind of setup produce like this so early has already produced a memorable season. I might surpass my total from 2008-09 by sunset on 10/29.

sun angle is the biggest factor....I wasn't quite sure about this early but once you hit mid NOV through mid FEB, sun isn't an issue.....it is too bad we don't get more snow in NOV/DEC because it is hard to melt...that measly clipper that dumped 1.5" last DEC still had snow sitting in the sheltered alleys 10 days later
