Hello everyone,

If you don't know me by name, my name is Zak Brisko and I am 23 years old. I am a journalism major at Shippensburg University and minoring in earth science. I am telling you all this because I am in the process of starting my own weather organization called the Hazardous Weather Prediction Center. Our goal there is to provide the public with the best forecast possible along with stunning graphics. I made this topic because well this is a weather forum and I know you guys love weather. I need some guys on my team that would like to become members and join as a met, forecaster, advisor, graphic media (photos and video), legal, financial and more. I hope to take my company within the next 1-2 years and make it a 501C3 (nonprofit) and also open a private sector where forecasting for businesses or personal use will be based on donations.

If anyone is interesting check out the site or facebook and let me know of your interest at [email protected]

This is by far the biggest weenie map I have ever seen for any winter storm or fantasy storm, and it came from last nights Euro of all things, which had a 956mb low over about Williamsport on its way to retrograding towards the central Lakes. Actually most major models have been putting up solutions that you just don't normally see. The GFS was in on it as well Sunday at 12z before it started taking Sandy out to sea without any phasing or big storm on the coast. We're probably not going to see our average seasons snowfall if we do get this haha but I do believe there's potential for some kind of a strong storm that could be a snow threat to at least the western PA high ground. It's going to be a while till this gets sorted out on the models one way or the other given the upstream and downstream features that need to be forecasted/sampled better as well as the eventual development, track, and interaction if any that T.S Sandy has with the approaching trough and upper low.

How bout the Euro? Wow.. this thing is looking like it will have large impacts somewhere. When I saw talk of this on Monday I thought for sure by Wednessday it would be showing out to sea.. Wonder if we manage our first accumulating snow out of this? Snow on Halloween has happened before, but I don't think it ever involved a Hurricane!

The euro might be the most insane run of any model I have seen. I think we would get a full out blizzard with how it is right now.

Given the time of year, I wonder how possible that even is though? This reminds of that possible snow storm back in early May that was initially showing us getting burried, but it was so late in the season that it just couldn't quite get cold enough to get any snow out of it. I wonder if the same thing could happen here being still so early in the season? I did see some accumulating snow last year from that Halloween weekend event when I was in Canonsburg (maybe an inch at best) and I guess it was all dependent on the elevations around the area who got what from that. Elevation will be another factor here if this actually takes place.

I just edited the topic page. Funny how the first post is from last year on Oct. 28th talking about our first snow in October.

Still a ways out but would be great to see a historic snowfall next week. Heck I'll take a couple inches of the white stuff. In the State College AFD they talk about the sun angle. They talked about the difference between the May storm last year and potential of snow for this year. They say a big difference is sun angle. This late in October the Sun angle is equivalent to February so that any snow would not have trouble accumulating during the day if it is cold enough.

Will have to wait and see. One thing for certain is that it's going to get cold and wet.

Any mets, what would SWPA's best track of the storm be for accumulating snow. I want to say the retrograde over LI into NYC is as it will throw moisture and cold air into the area, but I also know that track is very dubious for the NYC area too.

That's probably the best track snowwise for Central PA, and then retrograding and slowly killing the low in central/western NY. A more SW-PA friendly track might be a track that cuts into NJ and from Northeastern PA to western NY. Either track like that would probably give west PA snow. I'm only speaking solely trackwise, we shall see how good the temps are to work with if we end up with a solution like that in the end. Higher ground def would be looking good, but it probably depend on precip intensity when you work down to elevations like say in Pittsburgh. Thats not to say measurable snows out of the question, but i'd look for a pretty big range between the mountains and lower ground.

Euro says congrats snow-wise to places like Morgantown, Latrobe, and Washington... how often do you see those places in the bullseye? haha. Pittsburgh looked good too (at least 2" QPF), although 2m's are a lil warm.. would imagine totals would vary significantly between higher and lower Pit neighborhoods with this solution.

It is going to take a near pefect track for Pittsburgh to see a substantial snow fall (4+). It just doesn't look to be cold enough. I guess as we get closer that may change, and with a storm of this potential historic magnitude and rarity there really aren't alot of prevous cases to examine so something crazy could well happen. I am preparing more for a heavy rain and wind type event than winter storm at this point. Now if I lived in the higher elevations I'd probably be singing a different tune.
