north pgh
I am vacationing in Hilton Head and was mad that I missed out on some big storms in Pittsburgh the last 2 days. I just had a storm pop up and move up the coast and now they are training, one right after another. I have had continuous ctg lightning for over an hour and a half. I do not have an ocean front but I am less than a block from the ocean. I have been watching out the front door but too dangerous to go out. Check out this radar from 30 minutes ago. Rolling Snowed
Cloudy, gray day...currently 60 degrees; love it for August 11th! I just checked Pit's records and today's record low-high temperature (miniumun-maxiumum) is 69 degrees. If we stay cloudy, we may have a shot at this. Leaving the currently cooler temps of Pittsburgh for the next several days to the heat of Virginia. I think the highs are supposed to be around 90 while we are down there. Certainly have dealt with hotter over the years in that area though.

blackngoldrules
Another soaker would help offset the typical late August-October dry period. Latest GFS run has the remnants of Isaac hitting us in a week, heaviest precip to the north. That's a week away, and we're not even sure exactly where it's going to make landfall yet, so I guess we'll see how it plays out of course. north pgh
Haven't posted in a while. I had a crazy experience 2 Sunday's ago. Around 3:00 am during a minor thundershower with only distant lightning, I had a lightning strike in front of my house and it blew the transformer on the pole about 20 feet from my house. It shattered part of it into pieces all over my yard. It turned the furnace/ac on, which was turned off at the time and knocked power out to me and 2 of my neighbors who share the same transformer. Duquesne Light was out and put up a new transformer and had power on by mid morning. I was awake when it hit and saw it through the window. It scared the hell out of me, like a bomb going off. I ended up losing a tv, my weather radio, a sensor light for my driveway, and the Circuit board and my transformer in my furnace were blown and had to be replaced. I was able to retrieve thanks to my homeowners less deductable. My neighbors each lost computers, playstations, Wii's, Cable box blown out, a stove, dishwasher and microwave. In my house, every tv, game or computer that was on a surge protector was saved. Everything that was not on one no longer works. My advice. Make sure you have surge protectors. They do work. We had another major storm with a lot of lightning strikes nearby on Saturday. I am more sensitive when there is a storm now. I am looking forward to a calm Fall and tracking some snow storms. Yeah, I have everything in my apartment plugged into a surge protector. You just never know. Glad to hear that it wasn't worse than that, like maybe YOU getting struck. Looks like we may see more storms today, some are moving through Ohio. I'm starting to look forward to seeing some fall weather now. Football season starts in five days. My favorite time of the year actually. As much as I like tracking snowstorms in the winter (the few that we get around here), I still enjoy the fall weather the most. Rolling Snowed
Forecast of partly cloudy overnight. I have a thunderstorm moving through my area with some loud cracks of thunder. Figures. NWS PBZ made a post on their facebook wall mentioning this renegade storm last night. I either slept through it, or it was just to my north & east. It's been so damn dry here in Canonsburg, so much of what has been hitting around the airport and other parts of Allegheny County and other points north has completely missed us down this way. Well this should change as we head into a more synopitc mode over the next few months.
