Not everyone is quite so down....

AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PITTSBURGH PA

1118 PM EDT SUN APR 22 2012

.SYNOPSIS...

DEEP LOW PRESSURE WILL SPREAD RAIN AND SNOW ACROSS THE UPPER OHIO

VALLEY REGION THROUGH MONDAY. SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATION IS POSSIBLE

IN SOME AREAS...ESPECIALLY OVER THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/...

MID/UPR LEVEL LOW PRESSURE CONTINUES TO DEVELOP TOWARD THE UPPER

OHIO REGION TONIGHT AS SURFACE LOW MOVES UP THE EAST COAST. NO

CHANGE TO FORECAST OF RAIN TO SNOW TRANSITION WITH AREAS OF HEAVY

SNOW OVER AREAS NORTH AND EAST OF PITTSBURGH FOR THE NEAR TERM.

MUCH WILL DEPEND ON BOUNDARY LAYER TEMPERATURES...DEVELOPMENT OF

MID LEVEL FRONTOGENESIS AREAS...WHICH WOULD SUPPORT HIGHER

SNOWFALL RATES...AS WELL AS ENCROACMENT OF MID LEVEL DRY SLOT.

IN ADDITION...DEEPENING SURFACE LOW...OFFSET BY MIDWRN HIGH

PRESSURE WILL INTENSIFY THE PRESSURE GRADIENT OVR THE REGION

TODAY. WIND GUSTS OVER WESTERN COUNTIES MAY APPROACH ADVISORY

CRITERIA AS MIXING LEVEL DEEPENS THIS AFTERNOON.

BOTTOM LINE IS THAT MODELS CONTINUE TO SUPPORT HEAVY SNOWFALL

EVENT AND NO CHANGES WILL BE MADE TO HEADLINES TONIGHT.

Yeah you are in a little better shape being east and higher up. As winds become NW, that should help you out a bit more.

Dewpoints are slowly falling, once they're down to 32 F, the changeover should be soon.

I'm at 35*/34*.....

If someone would have told me even Friday that I would have watching temps hour by hour tonight, I would have thought I lost it.

I still may have considering that I'm here. I just keep thinking that even a rather pedestrian 3" storm is historic if it happens.

I'm still here too.

37 and falling and the rain has picked up.

Rain/snow line seems to be moving into Westmoreland County from the East.

I am hoping we can wake up to a couple inches like we did in October and then watch it snow lightly and melt during the day.

Typical storm tracking for Southwestern pa. All the posts start out as "Western Pa. gets clobbered...gets crushed...Look out"

Then we usually end up on the edge with a minor accumulation. Just like every year we get modeled for about 150 inches of snow every year only to end up with our average of 40 which comes 1 or 2 inches at a time.

I too got sucked in and yes it was something to track but now I would rather have sunny and 55 than 1/2 inch of slush which will cancel my kids ball games early this week.

Oh well.

No I can say it with confidence.

"I am ready for warm, humid air with Thunderstorms."

(Of course I will still be on here tomorrow with my observations of the wet snow we do get...haha)

The life of a weather nut.

And we will all be back in November for more frustration. It's what we do.

lol.....recent snow stats:

2009-2010 - 77.4 inches, third snowiest winter, and that was not a bunch of 1-2" events

2010-2011 - 56.7 inches, 17th snowiest winter

You are correct.

2010 we had the 2 big storms in February and last year we did okay.

But my fellow posters on here will remember we only had one storm over 8 inches in about a 10 year period which was the Feb storm in 2003.

As I said earlier we went from bullseye to a near miss in one day so of course I was frustrated.

Western Pa. just seems to be the starting point for all the big storms and then they shift west, east, South and North from there. :arrowhead:

Tell me about it, its enough to piss ya right off. CTP has slashed everyones totals by 70% lololol.

What is odd is that in their 1 AM discussion, they said only minor tweaks expected to their snow forecast. However, if you look at the point and click, areas that had 14 inches before are now 1-3 inches total.

I am assuming they are going to drop the warnings here shortly.

Yeah, they are just covering all the bases at the moment. I have some of CTP earlier forecast maps saved, so if this does bust, I'l make a few memes out of it :)

Fair, legally speaking I live in bethel Park though! But feel free to come and break balls but the burgh will never feel the pain equivalent to March '01!

Yes - unless you are like me and lived in Harrisburg at the time.

This is shaping up to be an overall storm bust more than a location bust - which is a little easier to take...

Well, I guess we can just put this latest bust behind us now and get back to spring! Back to warm weather and thunderstorms!

I agree.

Surprisingly I have not received one wet snowflake at all. Usually with a bust we will get a dusting at least. I told my wife we were getting snow on Monday and she told me that "no way it will snow this late in the year" With this storm I was expecting at least something. She laughed at me this morning and said "I told you"

What could I say. We followed the damn models.

Something yesterday morning just didn't look right, with the northern and gulf systems no where close to phasing.

But after last nights monster discussion, I figured what do I know. Lol

Should've stayed with eyeball test.

Except for the 10 people that live above 2000 ft, this thing was cooked.
