Was looking at last year's winter thread for entertainment purposes. I forgot that the 8-10" thump in February was actually on President's Day.

It was pretty funny to see everyone's comments as it was unfolding and becoming an obvious overachiever. Great snowfall rates too.

Of course before then we were all complaining because our "40 inches as of early Febuary was soooo uneventful"

Winds are picking up...I'd estimate so far some gusts to 35mph here in Canonsburg.

But the real fun is just coming, KHLG just gusted to 50 at the 3pm obs.

Good luck to those w/the commute home this afternoon with gusts averaging 40-50 mph.

For the snow lovers, the flakes may mix in by 6-8pm....and with the open lake...the bands should set up tonight.

I'm thinking around an inch or so locally....maybe someone lucks out with two or so.

It's a relative cold air-mass maybe -10 to -12 at 850mb tom...the relative warm winter has made lake effect snow possible in late Feb/early March...which was not the case with iced-over lakes the past few winters.

Hopefully this is my last winter in the biz....and it's been a great one.

Although the overall pattern is probably different, tonight reminded be a bit of a late Feb 93 squall event.

These thin, intense bands setup over Allegheny county, and put down some serious snow.

That's the last "snow squall warning" I can remember. Got about 8" off that - an embarrassment of riches that season.

Nice squall tonight! Horizonal snow....thunder....eyeballing maybe an inch in about 30 minutes,

That's awesome you remember that !

BTW, round two is coming through right now, I'm just too lazy to go outside and check it out.

Like a moth to the flame, I had to go out for a quick walk down to the river

Was able to catch the end of the heaviest snow, mabey 200 ft visibility. Found a car spoiler and measured about 1.5"

After the squall went through, the winds really picked up, and the waves were being pushed ashore pretty good.

Also the the contrast between the clearing skies and low clouds was really nice.

That was insane, that 1993 event. It took me two hours to drive from Dormont to Mt. Washington.

I remember one band imparticular that dropped about 5 inches of snow in 3 hours on me. The band was very narrow about 10 -15 miles wide. I had a computer printout that I saved from the event. It was from Jan 15, 2004.
