I just read this, looked outside and I am currently mixing with and changing back to snow.

MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 0036

NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK

1159 PM CST FRI JAN 20 2012

AREAS AFFECTED...SRN AND CNTRL PA

CONCERNING...HEAVY SNOW

VALID 210559Z - 211000Z

HEAVY SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS SRN AND CNTRL PA LATER

TONIGHT. SNOWFALL RATES COULD REACH 1 INCH PER HOUR ACROSS PARTS OF

THE MCD AREA.

WATER VAPOR IMAGERY CURRENTLY SHOWS A SHORT-WAVE TROUGH EXTENDING

FROM THE ERN GREAT LAKES SWWD ACROSS THE OH VALLEY. A LARGE AREA OF

PRECIPITATION IS LOCATED JUST AHEAD OF THE AXIS OF THE SHORTWAVE

TROUGH FROM SRN OH EXTENDING EWD INTO THE CNTRL APPALACHIAN MTNS. A

THREAT FOR FREEZING RAIN OR SLEET MAY EXIST ACROSS SW PA FOR A FEW

MORE HOURS DUE TO WARMER AIR IN PLACE SOUTH OF THE PITTSBURG AREA.

HOWEVER...FROM PITTSBURG EWD TO NEAR HARRISBURG...THE PRECIPITATION

SHOULD BE ALL SNOW WHERE FORECAST SOUNDINGS SHOW TEMPS BELOW -10C IN

THE 850 TO 700 MB LAYER. IN ADDITION...MODEL FORECASTS MARKEDLY

STRENGTHEN ISENTROPIC LIFT ACROSS SRN AND CNTRL PA LATER TONIGHT AS

THE SHORTWAVE APPROACHES FROM THE WEST. THIS SHOULD RESULT IN ENOUGH

LIFT FOR HEAVY SNOWFALL WITH SNOWFALL RATES REACHING 1 INCH PER HOUR

MAINLY DURING THE OVERNIGHT PERIOD.

This might end up being spot on...I'm almost back to all snow.

Roads beginning to become snow covered again, whew! Pa, I noticed in the central thread you mentioned you were from Emsworth. I spent the winter of 09-10 there and have great memories. Its too bad I wasn't more active back then, maybe I would have had someone to on Feb 5-6th to enjoy my 5 hour hike with haha.

Well, just moved in here this year...right on the Blvd. One thing I am learning is that it is not prime snow location in the city. I go from here, to my work in Cranberry, and usually Cranberry has an inch or two more of snow. Same at my parents house in West View.

Still getting freezing rain. Coming down moderately right now too. Roads look like they are a sheet of ice here. My parking lot definitely is. I may not be going anywhere for a while.

I'm getting moderate, to almost heavy snow...a new inch just laid down since changing back over. Hopefully you can make it back over to snow out your way!

I just plowed our driveway and can confirm that 7 inch report. Seems like we were the winners out of the area. I really didn't expect this much. How much freezing rain did you guys get?

I haven't been out to see how significant the ice layer is...

But I would estimate I got an inch.....then probably about 4 hours of ice.....then another two inches

Edit: I cleared off a branch and found about 1/8" of ice.

KPIT recorded 4" this morning, making a new record daily snowfall.

The old record was 3.5:" set in 1926.

Error on snow depth which says 80"

Looks like the official total for the event will be up near 5".

I think west of the city did better than east for this one due to a little less warm air which associated with the surface low.

I regret that I didn't clear the old snow off of the picnic table last night, but I can confirm that there's a good 7" total out there. It definitely outperformed the forecast.

Well all is not lost without all the snow....shoveled the 1/2" snow off the ice in our driveway...about 1/2" ice....soooo I laced up the skates and shot some hockey in the driveway with my daughter! ...

Sorry you guys didn't get the snow. We knew it would probably split the county and it did.

I ended up with 5 inches that I just had to shovel off the driveway. Almost took me an hour. Looking at the trees and pavements I ended up with no ice at all.

Bad thing is I didn't get to see most of it fall. When I went to bed at 2:00 am I still had a light mix and maybe an fresh inch on the ground. The rest fell while I was sleeping. I just couldn't stay up.
