Jns2183
Snow is starting to lay on the top of the layer of slush on the roads. This picture was taken about 10 minutes ago right before it started to lay on the roads here in Carlisle

Bad a$$ band about to move in. If this was at night.......... You? You're south of 30. Mallow
So I have to ask this... until I moved here/checked out these threads, I had only rarely heard the word "lay" when referring to sticking snow. Is that a Pennsylvania thing? Or an east coast thing? Does anyone know? I've always just called it "sticking" FWIW.

Snow is starting to lay on hard surfaces here in Neffsville. 32.5 degrees, 31 dewpoint I'm thinking even south of me along Rt. 741 in Lancaster. Place right along the Mason-Dixon line, especially higher terrain, could go to near whiteout for a time.

Jns2183
New Disco from CTP just out .SYNOPSIS... -- Changed Discussion -- A NOREASTER IS DEEPENING RAPIDLY AND WILL CONTINUE TO MOVE ALONG THE EAST COAST AND SLIGHTLY OFFSHORE. THE HEAVY...WET AND DESTRUCTIVE EARLY SEASON SNOW WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THE LATE AFTERNOON IN THE WEST AND EVENING IN THE EAST. MUCH OF THE REGION WILL SEE BETWEEN 4 AND 8 INCHES OF SNOW BY THE EVENING...WITH HIGH ELEVATIONS RECEIVING EVEN HIGHER AMOUNTS. SLIGHTLY LOWER AMOUNTS WILL FALL ACROSS THE NORTHWEST MOUNTAINS. HIGH PRESSURE WILL BUILD NORTHEAST FROM THE TENNESSEE VALLEY FOR SATURDAY NIGHT AND SUNDAY...WITH CLEARING SKIES. MODERATING TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED EARLY NEXT WEEK. -- End Changed Discussion -- && .NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/... -- Changed Discussion -- BARELY ANY TWEAKS NEEDED FOR THIS UPDATE. ALL AIR TEMPS NOW 33F OR LESS EXCEPT IN IPT AND SEG AND VSBYS LESS THAN A MILE. SEG IN A GOOD BAND NOW AND HAS GONE TO PLAIN SNOW DESPITE 36F TEMP. ALL IS GOING AS PLANNED WITH CLOUD TOPS COOLING VERY WELL OVER THE AREA...WITH THE TOPS NOW -45 TO -50C. TRAVEL OVER THE LARUELS ALREADY VERY DANGEROUS WITH ROADS SNOW COVERED AND HEAVY SNOW FALLING. SNOWFALL RATES WILL BE AN INCH PER HOUR IN THE HEAVY BANDS. ACCUMS IN THE 18Z TO 00Z TIME FRAME SHOULD AVERAGE 2 TO 4 INCHES EXCEPT HIGHER-ELEVATION LOCATIONS TO THE EAST OF STATE COLLEGE AND ALTOONA. FAR SE LANCASTER COUNTY MAY SEE MORE RAIN THAN SNOW AND SOMEWHAT LESSER ACCUMULATIONS. WINDS ARE BACKING AND ONLY PULLING IN DRIER AIR TO HELP FURTHER COOL THINGS OFF AS EVAPO/DYNAMIC COOLING WORK AS WELL. UNDOUBTEDLY...THE MOST SIGNIFICANT IMPACT FROM THIS STORM WILL COME IN THE FORM OF WIDESPREAD DOWNED TREES AND POWER OUTAGES FROM THE HEAVY WEIGHT OF THE SNOW ON THE STILL FOLIAGE LADEN TREES. ITS POSSIBLE THAT POWER LOSSES COULD LAST FOR UP TO SEVERAL DAYS FROM EXTENSIVE DOWNED TREES/UTILITY LINES. -- End Changed Discussion --

Is that a Pennsylvania thing? Or an east coast thing? Does anyone know? I've always just called it "sticking" FWIW. I think it's an eastern regional thing. I bet it sounds funny to you, lol. BTW, aren't these heavier bands showing up a bit early? I didn't expect them until early afternoon and I think a few mets are thinking the same thing. PSU8315
Already getting reports of 3 to 4 inches across some of the higher elevations of Huntingdon, Blair and Cambria counties. I didn't expect them until early afternoon and I think a few mets are thinking the same thing. Maybe, but not by a lot I think. Maybe an hour early? Early could mean one of two things--more heavy bands and more snow, or just an earlier progression of the system and the same amount of snow. Interesting CTP says 2-4" after 2pm...with sun angle decreasing from 1:30 onward and upper levels cooling that could be when it piles up if it plays out how they think it will. PennMan
really coming down around harrisburg Yeah looking at the I-81/78 webcams, even the interstates are starting to get slushy.
