Really? Are you north of SC? Reason I ask is north of SC on traffic cams no snow but coating in State College itself.

I'm in East Halls, so on the north end of town but not far from it. I lied-there is a patchy coating on some parts of the grass (maybe the parts less soggy from the rain?). But not even a full "dusting" quite yet.

We are a solid 50/50 mix of wet snow and rain. The temperature has fallen to 34 degrees and my heat has kicked on for the first time this year. Everything appears to be on track and we should see within the next 2 - 4 hours where the meso-scale banding will setup. I'm completely off models, with the exception of the HRR and RUC.

That could be - I have a big bare patch due to our huge maple still having most of it's leaves. In Oct 2009 there was 6 inches but a coating under the trees - very strange. Much of that was also likely due to the fact that all the lower giant branches were bent to the ground and covering.

I recall Mallow saying something like, an inch by 10AM would mean we're on track. Is this still holding true, in your guys' opinions? I've tempered my expectations, certainly, but just curious.

My snow board has .8" as of 9:30 thumbsupsmileyanim.gif

I'm just a mile down Atherton Street from campus.... pretty nice coating. A couple degrees warmer in downtown, maybe?

Any red/orange taggers care to weigh in with how things are progressing so far?

Gladly,

Truly a spectacular event unfolding across the mid state and the Mid Atlantic/Northeast United States. I woke up to 39 degrees and light rain this morning, only to be at 33 degrees and a steady snow two hours later. Everything is going according to plan, perhaps an hour ahead of time. If anyone has access to WGAL, you have to turn it on as Drew Anderson and Jim Cantore are talking in heavy wet snow.

From now until 5pm is the business. Road cams in the mountains show heavy precipitation as all snow and once we move past the solar maximum I think some dramatic elevated snow accumulations will occur. Any location that can manage 1 - 2" per hour from 2pm on could really be in for a show.

When do you expect the precip to start further north? Lots of locations north of 80 reporting nothing.

Steady precip after the lunch hour. Luzerne County and most of NE PA needs to wait for the coastal bomb to start throwing precip in there. By the way, what is your elevation?

EDIT: Snow accumulating on the car tops and elevated surface such as light poles and gutters.

Temperature: 33

Dew Point: 32
