MaineJayhawk
I wonder how bad the tree damage will be? This is so unprecedented around here I don't really have anything to judge it by. I was in State College during 3" of slop one October and thre were a lot of branches down. It'll be bad. In Kansas City in the mid-90s we had a surprise 8" snowfall in mid-October. Fully-foliated trees ... just tons of damage from it. They put the debris on golf courses. It was amazing, looks like the same is coming Saturday. HIPPYVALLEY
Do you need a 3G connection for those to work? I don't have 3G at the Pit FTL. Works anywhere you can get a signal. I would of thought up on the hill you had good reception?
SnowMan
Thanks. #1 came fast, within 8 hours of her water breaking. I don't have much time for #2 to get her to the hospital. I'll have a chainsaw in the backseat with a newly sharpened chain for sure!! A foot of snow in Oct is crazy! Congrats man! That's great. My wife is still 5 weeks out from her due date, so we should be set this weekend...lol not sure I can say the same for you. This weekend could be the best of both worlds...the birth of your son/daughter and a massive snowstorm...

moneypitmike
They'll be in for a nasty surprise. Hopefully, we'll keep power, but widespread outages looking likely. We dont' have much in the way of leaves any more, but the power comes up from Greenfield, and everyone's at the mercy of what happens upstream in these things. That's why I was getting gas (for my generator). Having one insures you don't need it of course.......
HIPPYVALLEY
Time to head out and fill the gas cans. I don't want to go out tomorrow once the general public goes into full panic mode.

Jesus H you guys still have a lot of foliage even in the hills. We've been bare for two weeks now. If that's what the hills look like this is going to be catastrophic. I figured the hills above 1k would be close to bare by now...wow the valleys are done; impassable roads, wires everywhere, people walking down the middle of the street in a path through the debris. Buffalo Bumble
I wonder how bad the tree damage will be? This is so unprecedented around here I don't really have anything to judge it by. I was in State College during 3" of slop one October and thre were a lot of branches down. Having experienced the Oct 12-13 lake effect snowstorm in Buffalo in 2006, it's an understatement to say that tree and powerline damage can be extreme from these early events. In our case, the extensive damage was aided by SWE ratios of 6:1 (see below for an exerpt from the BUF NWS storm summary). "Even though plenty of damage resulted already in the first few inches, total snowfall in this event was simply unbelievable. 5 to 8 inches fell in the first phase of the event between 3 pm and midnight, but the snow water equivalent (swe) ratio was around 6:1 or so, hence the terrific damage to trees and powerlines. The second phase featured slightly drier snow, maybe 12:1 but it piled up another foot in heaviest area, in just 4 hours or so. The 22.6 inches recorded at the Buffalo airport not only blew away any October record (6" in 1909, only 4 falls of 2" or more in 100 years in October), but was the 7th greatest snowfall ever at any time in Buffalo!" I was in State College during 3" of slop one October and thre were a lot of branches down. 1987 Early October (4th?) storm when I lived near Albany, NY was pretty fooking bad. We had over a foot of maple mauling, oak obliterating snow. Power issues for days.

Zeus
Starting from 18z tomorrow. Increments every 3 hrs. If anything, it may be a little slower. I think we'd be pretty happy with that as is. I'm sort of dubious about the big push east toward the end. Could really make some accumulation for us over in eastern MA, but I have trouble seeing the precip actually being as intense as it appears right now per the Euro while the "tail" twists right over us. Could really make some accumulation for us over in eastern MA, but I have trouble seeing the precip actually being as intense as it appears right now per the Euro while the "tail" twists right over us. I think the stuff at the tail end will be pretty good as modeled. The mid level lows should really go to town and help force some good bands overhead. The problem is that we may waist a decent chunk of the storm as rain for a while before changing over tomorrow evening. I suppose if it really goes to town it could be a 34F paste job for a few hours before cooling to near 32F....that is not out of the question too..especially where you are. This is a tricky forecast away from the hills and distant interior nw of 495. No doubt there will be twists and turns with this.
