One big difference though is with severe weather season, you could arguably have that all 12 months of the year. Snow lovers only have a small window basically December into March. We are soon coming up on half our season gone, with at least two to three more weeks shot in the butt. However, as a snow lover i also fall under the category, if it isn't going to snow, embrace the warmth.

Agree, I have never been crazy about cold. I still believe we will have 2 or 3 weeks of snow potential probably mid feb until early march but in the meantime lets have some record breaking warmth! In 1993 I remember after the first week in feb I only had a couple inches of snow for the whole winter and over the next few weeks received over 30 inches.

Plus severe is so hit-and-miss. I've lived here all my life, and I'd say widespread ( relatively speaking, obviously a snowstorm will impact a larger area) severe in our area is more unlikely than a snow event (and by event I mean even 1-2"). Not just because of the hit-and-miss nature of severe storms, but because of the climo of the area.

And by severe, I'm not talking about garden variety pop-ups that produce 30-35mph gusts, but storms that reach or even come close to reaching actual severe criteria. What I'm trying to say is snow weenies have a greater reason to be frustrated over a terrible season than do severe weenies. ;)

Just about 2 weeks ago I was all on board for the pattern change. I was wrong and from what it looks like now, I am really wrong. I know we still have time to get snow but it is not looking good for the long run. I know I was saying to some have patience. Well my patience is almost gone and everyday I look at the models showing it's only going to get warmer. I am going back to all the models I have bookmarked on pattern change that I thought was coming and learn from my mistakes. I can admit when I am wrong and I was wrong. I am going to try and stay positive for the rest of the winter, even if winter never comes. I just hope my flowers beds with all of my beautiful Azelas do not start to blossoming early this year and then get robbed of the beauty of spring with a hard freeze. Warm is nice but to warm may cause a serious problems down the road if we end up having a hard freeze while everything is in early bloom.

So your first winter in the mid-Atlantic was 2009-2010? Good timing, but a nice way to mess with your expectations. ;)

It was a manna from heaven. Grew up in Ohio---so had snow in my background, but nothing, there, NOTHING like I saw here in '09 - '10. That was beyond awesome.

And, after all the years in the relative snow exile of Memphis, like some kind of snow ecstasy nirvana.

Agreed about severe and the nature of it vs. snow events... it was unfair of me to compare them as evenly as I did. However, my point still stands given the endless complaint posts from both this year and last year. I drive hundreds of miles to see severe on any given day... it wouldn't take that much effort to go up into the mountains to go see snow.

It's a lot easier to watch and wait in lurk mode vs. posting every grievance about the weather.

the amount of repetitive/worthless posts do get annoying, posting the word "torch" over and over really adds alot

Agreed... the warminista posts have been getting old.

Granted, I didn't help the situation by posting the torch maps this morning, but then again I haven't been contributing much in that regard compared to some others.

Plus most of these people aren't even genuine with their "torch!!!" act. They want it to snow just like everyone else. I'm sure I'll get the "if it can't snow, give me the torch!" line, but guess what? You need cold air for it to snow. :o

The true warminista or warmista or however the hell it's spelled was JackO (and a few of his friends who left for Stormvista). Most of the rest are just terrible imitators. ;):P

That's gonna leave a mark

HM had a lot of If statments in there...If clipper strong enough...if clipper takes proper track. He did a Wes..he showed the potential but he didnt make a forecast.

If your going to bust on HM...bust on Wes too

im not busting on HM other the fact that it's kinda silly to throw out numbers on a clipper 5-6 days in advance.. and had it come together that's a clear opening to be like "yeah i told you 5-6 days ago!"

How is that different from Wes 1-3? Wes and HM did the same thing

LOL - if anyone wants to call out the "torch" people, just use our (or mine) names, its kind of funny you can't do so.

lol, I'm not trying to call anyone out. It doesn't bother me at all, and neither does the complaining (as long as it's funny ;) ). This place is the best weather board out there, with some of the best mets in the country posting, but it wouldn't be fun if it was strictly 100% weather talk all the time.

I was simply making an observation. ;)

please put my warn status back to zero...it should of been reset to zero when the winter started as i had no warning for the past 10 or so months and only got one warning this year for putting up a graphic image(although it was suppose to be funny)

I should be at 20%...please reset so i can use some of my percentage
