Pattern will need to change, storm track will need to change(not much) and then we can start to watch for what may be coming. Well, here's another thought that just popped into my head and I want to instantly share with the world: Aren't the weenie meltdowns supposed to happen when the Euro DOESN'T show snow? Pattern changing storm in ~ 20-25 days, February will be sexy. I'd bet 150k on it, method used isn't typically considered "safe" but it'll work. Seems the system for the 25-26th is going to have trouble even existing due to the strong northern branch squashing the southern energy and then racing east and smothering anything from getting going. THis is going to be a major problem so long as the AO stays positive. In the type of pattern we have now, we have almost no chance outside a crazy fluke luck event until the AO goes negative or at least neutral. In a nina the northern branch is going to be roided up. Normally we have little southern energy in a nina but this year we actually have had some juice to work with but we need the AO to go negative so the northern branch can dig further south and phase in instead of either squashing or pulling the southern energy north. In the type of pattern we have the AO is even more important then normal. As long as it stays where it is now we are toast for any significat snow threats. I will continue to check in every couple days waiting for a sign the AO is going to tank, but until it does not much good will come of this.
