FallsLake
Something that may help December is the snow/ice cover looks to be increaseing in a positive way to be able to build cold air masses early (i.e. December). Snow cover now basically from the Urals easterward. Siberia is where the real cold air gets generated.

dsaur
Many thanks! Hope you are very right about Feb. cold. I was most disappointed with last Feb. I always want more winter, not less. Winter 'til May, is my motto Tony

Winter 'til May, is my motto Tony ha! no, I'm ready for that first good warm spell in late February, and certainly warming up in April. I can deal with bouts of winter in March though. Good outlook Brandon.

griteater
Good read Hickory. Any thoughts on the cooler SSTs around Greenland compared to this time last year with regard to implications on the NAO? Appreciate you and Foothills putting out these outlooks. NC_hailstorm
Nice read HKY. We had a record setting -NAO that went 68 days this summer, that may lead to more blocking in winter.1962-63 match up pretty good.
Carvers Gap
Nice work. Hope it plays out that way. I agree w/ your premise that the overall pattern for winter is different - though I'm probably not qualified to have that opinion! Anyway, nice write-up. Mencken_Fan
http://www.examiner....ecast-2011-2012 Hope it's interesting. While I never expect snow here on Cape Fear, I do root every winter for the many inlanders here who have a much better chance of seeing the white stuff. If your well-laid-out forecast holds up, I'm sure I'll have lots of rooting to do this winter. Good luck to all.
