It's Tough To Get A Really Cold US Winter During +AMO

Recommended Posts

I am defining really cold as a top 20 coldest winter for the USA.

http://climvis.ncdc.noaa.gov/cgi-bin/cag3/hr-display3.pl

Out of the top 20 coldest US winters since 1896, only four have occurred During +AMO winter conditions.

1979 -

1978 -

Question.

On the site how do I get it to show summers/winters from warmest to coldest and vice versa?

On the home page do I click on National, then for period winter (Dec-Feb) output would be table then do it by rank?

When i do that I don't see 2010 as the coldest winter.

Trying to learn how to use this.

It's a garbled mess if I do exactly what you did (below for example)...it's a bit frustrating. Seems like a coding issue.

But the rankings are in there, despite the mess, in order. 2010 (or 2009-10) was the 15th coldest winter by their rankings.

Oh so when bluewave listed the years he didn't list them in order of top coldest to 20th coldest?

No. They're in chronological order.

The drop down box has the rank of each winter (when using the line chart feature when you submit what seasons your researching with this link). http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/research/cag3/na.html

The only way to see all the years together other than scrolling down the whole list is to print out the graph.
