Thundersnow12
Got one of my two home county tornado warnings that morning. With the other one being in November, wouldn't of thought that lol
Hoosier
Got one of my two home county tornado warnings that morning. With the other one being in November, wouldn't of thought that lol That outbreak was pretty special in a way. I really can't remember that many tornadoes in this region at that time of day. Edit: quick check and there were like 30 tornadoes between 4 AM and noon in IL/IN/OH/KY
tornadotony
I posted a thread on some radar research we did here on one of the tornadoes from that morning.

hm8
For a non-winter storm, there sure was a ton of hype outside of the usual weather geek world for this. So much so that we got let out of school early... Even though the front had already passed . Of course it ended up being nothing more then a shower, so people figured this crazy storm must still be heading for us...
Stebo
Now just imagine, if this system was 6 hours slower and we had sunshine in the morning over IN/OH/MI. It really could have been even more amazing of a day than it was.

cyclone77
For as great of a storm this was our area escaped most of the brunt of it. The severe fired to our east, and the gradient winds never got too impressive here.
IWXwx
Here is a velocity scan grab of the squall line as it rolled through Northern IN. The arrow is pointing to the rotation that was producing an EF-1 at the time. Here is a sample of the damage at a farm in Northwest Huntington County:
smoof
I was at a casino in the eastern UP aka bay mills resort... when the line of tstorms came through that afternoon, it must have gusted over 60mph with just a few lightning flashes, I watched some roof tiles fly off then. then it was on to the fun with the winds increasing up to 40mph or so sustained, larger gusts, the casino lost power 4x or more during the day, it was nerdy fun to watch the slot machines reset when they show you what software / operating system etc they are running on boot text... the next morning it was gusting like crazy, I went 30 miles to the west in the shallowest and warmest lake superior swimming spot that exists in michigan.. I had to drive under one hanging power line... when I got to to the shallow swimming spot, I went out 250ft or so into the lake (massive sandbars in the shallow spot with the wind blowing the water out).. the wind gusts were insane the trees were bending hard, I had to hold my winter hat on my head or it would have flown away. I'd estimate 60mph or more gusts while out in the lake, after that I decided to take the shortcut trail back to the hotel... I had to drive under and over a few downed pine trees just to get back. A day or so later when I returned home it seemed like almost 10% of all trees were broken or near the roadway.. great fun overall, I took some roof tiles home as a storm trophy lol...
