Go Time - First Winter Storm Threat for New England 2011/12

Baroclinic Zone

Recommended Posts

The s/w on the models seems like it would argue for something closer to the 18z GFS, Pretty big displacement between the surface low and 500 s/w. Might indicate how the low level baroclinic zone is being shoved south and the euro resolution is seeing this, but something to think about.

Are you speaking of Thursday or Saturday?

As crazy as it is, should there be a storm 1 storm 2 thread? Kinda silly since storm 2 is not really thread-worthy at this point. But it's getting enough attention to make this discussion a little confusing.

May not have to worry about storm 2

warmer and faster at 78hrs, can someone point out if this is what we want for the second storm? I remember last year we went back and forth and wanting to get the 1st system out of the way, bringing colder air in.

"getting the cold air out of the way" is flawed logic in this case. A colder first system actually leaves us with an antecedent airmass colder afterward. Its an anafrontal wave, so if its further north, it just delays our cold and how far south it will press.

Could any of us even dream of a better scenario than this tonight? This is late December stuff we are looking at...

Snow

Not really... each storm could go either way right now... First real "deadzone" period of the winter. An even longer one too it will seem like. 10 pm!:axe:

LOL..I'm serious though..You guys have common bonds in that you all live in Mass, are Sox fans, have weird accents etc.. You guys always look for ways to have Ray somehow get more snow than me. I get it..it's fine..You guys lean in his direction..it's rare and in fact I'm not sure I can recall a time where you guys have said"I think Kev will get more than Ray" It's got nothing to do with climo or anything..so that argument cannot be used. LOL..it's all good...but if you sit back and think about..all the above is true
