haha ya I don't even know if Toronto has multiple posters? Anyways I'm being told that Lauriers campus is a skating rink. I'm heading out in a bit as well so I'll soon find out how bad it actually is out there.

I still find it funny there is another member in Waterloo! There is a large valley forest where Columbia turns into Lexington... might make it out that way to listen for creaks and such. Might sound cool with the echo off the cliffs.

Happy ice storm :guitar:

I haven't seen any snow here in waterloo. Though the trees are starting to get coated in enough ice that when the wind blows you can hear it. I live on the 9th floor so I haven't seen how the ground conditions are

sum light freezing rain/rain here in my area in Vaughan.

my thermometer reads -0.4C

Concludes my first on foot freezing rain chase. Walked about a km it's awesome out there. Small icicles forming off branches and dead plants are being weighed down. Slick patches all over, going to go back out in a bit... why I don't know -- this is fun!

Rain is coming down moderate to heavy at times, the U of W wx station stopped recording at 0.4mm maybe the rain gauge is iced over?

Haven't heard about Laurier yet but I'd believe it. Martin over at the weather network just tweeted multiple cars in the ditch on highway 6 between Fergus and Arthur. Also, looks like the first report of freezing rain came from Kitchener 2 hours ago, now it's spread to Peterborough County and Prince Edward County according to the tweet trail.

Just walked back from a friends place, safe to say any elevated surface is completely ice covered. The grass has a crunch sound to it when you walk on it. Sidewalk is hit or miss. This is actually the best "ice storm" I can say i remember. I find it hard to get solid freezing rain events like this down in the southern lakes.

Yeah, the RoW airport here reported freezing rain at 1056pm, rain at 1059pm, and snow at 1102pm

:yikes:

I live in south Mississauga in the Clarkson area by the lake, however, I go to school in Waterloo during the main winter months (aside from December).

I'm already dreading going back to such a different climate. Mostly being screwed over by the lake in the early winter and early spring.

Whereabouts are you in mississauga? I'm from there too despite my username lol

This is one of the more minor events I can think of. Sketchy memory, but there was a real good one in late winter 2008 where everything was a cm or more layered in ice in the morning. Cabs were backlogged and city buses were shut down so I walked from Keats Way down University to King which took over an hour. I ended up stuck at the plaza with the pizza pizza on King & U because I slid down the hill into the parking lot and couldn't get back out in any direction for a few minutes. Some tricky maneuvers later and a few slides back down then I was free. The few cars that were out were sliding all over the road like bumper cars.

That's about the best recent one I can remember. Hydro didn't go out that day which you think it would. When does the hydro ever go out around here? This city must have the best grid in the country.

Just looking at Hydro One and 10,000 are without power in Prince Edward County. Looks like the entire county is in the dark. Other than that, spotty outages in Simcoe, Oxford, Essex, Lambton, and Norfolk counties.

Aside from you having a bad time, it sounds like a good event. I was still living in Mississauga at that time, so I wasn't able to witness it. I've been told the winter of 2007-2008 around here was something to remember.

It definitely was. Record snowfall of 97". For a solid what must be five years before 07/08, most of our snowstorms involved a forecast of 20-30cm, only to receive about 5-10cm. That winter was pure gold, never failed to produce something amazing and cripple the city. The streets looked like a rocky mountain homage with all the snow piles. Snow removal was millions over budget for the twin cities.

Has nothing on London last December, though. 6 feet in a week. The train ride through the city looked like some post-apocalyptic disaster with snow up to the eaves on houses. Would love to live in the traditional snowbelt to experience something like that, but like winter 07/08, those events are few and far between around here. Well, in recent history they appear to be.

The winter of 2007-08 was something to remember everywhere. Wat-Wel airport picked up 251.4cm (98.9"). Discounting Pearson's lowballing, the Toronto area picked up ~210-230cm (~85-90") depending on the location. It wasn't that much more spectacular over there.

Sometimes you give the impression that Mississauga's climate is akin to that of southern Virginia's.
