Colorado Autumn/Fall Pics

Absolutely spectacular set. I'm quite jealous -- been wanting to take a trip like this in early October each of the seven years I've lived in OK so far, but always have something else going on or talk myself out of it.

What camera and editing software are you using? All of these shots are very sharp and perfectly processed.

Thanks Brett!

I am much like you in that I always wanted to take a trip to the mountains (which I dearly love) during fall. We were very fortunate in our timing as the western ridge which had been dominant all summer brought us spectacular weather, then preceded to give way to the large trough two weeks ago (and the one that brought the significant leeside trough to all of the central, southern, and northern plains complete with 60 MPH winds and red flag conditions across much of the plains) which brought significant high elevation snows to all of the intermountain W a couple days after we left.

I have a pretty basic amateur DSLR setup. I have a Canon EOS400d (Rebel XTi) and a Sigma 18-50 mm f2.8 (i bought it for the speed). I shoot RAW and process with the free Canon RAW editing software. I am not too big into tweaking or editing beyond exposure tweaks and/or WB tweaks. I try to keep the pictures as true to the actual conditions as possible.

Last summer I went to the Tetons and Absoraka Range in western Wyoming (when I lived in UT at the time), and my next planned trip out W will probably be Glacier National Park and NW Montana next fall. I hope you get a chance to get out soon; the intermountain W is a glorious piece of America.

Excellent photography you got there! I live halfway between Denver and Colorado Springs and I'm so sorry I did not hit up the mountains for the fall foliage. I had just visited the Estes Park, Trail Ridge Rd during Labor Day weekend. In post #2, picture #7, would that happen to be Dream Lake? That is a must see for those in the Denver area looking to do a short drive to visit the mountains.

It was Dream Lake! We did it the hard way though. Instead of parking up at Bear Lake lot we hiked it all the way up from Sprague Lake. It was about a 10 mile round trip total, but it was so much more worth it doing it the hard way.

Beautiful shots and I love the aspens...or as we call them here, poplars. They're an underappreciated foliage tree here in New England, being overshadowed by the famous maples--but they really are quite nice. The maples are all done here now and the popples reign supreme out there on the hills, color-wise.
