bluewave
So far this month, the temperature pattern with the cooler anomalies focused more toward the Southeastern US has some similarities to October 1964. The forecast for the rest of the month seems to reinforce this pattern with the GFS 7 day mean temperature departures showing a similar pattern of an Eastern Trough in the means. The difference this month to date is that the overall pattern is warmer. Oct
uncle W
I was using that analog for 2008-09...Both years had a pre Christmas snowfall that melted Christmas Eve...Both years had a mild damp Christmas...January was cold with some snow...February was milder with one good snowfall...The first three weeks of October 1964 was one of the coldest first three weeks on record...The last week saw record warmth...November averaged above normal but did have a very cold 11/22...December started out cold withy rain and ice...Christmas day was warm...60 in Central Park and 70 in Newark...The next two days were 60 or higher...Then the cold returned to stay for the most part until early February...January 1965 had a 6-10" surprise snowstorm on 1/10/65...A disappointing 5" mini blizzard on the 16th and a surprise ice storm on the 23rd...
