Tim from Springfield (IL)
2/8-10/10... Event: This wasn't your typical winter storm, as you will see from the images below. The lake effect/enhancement really helped to boost totals in lakeside counties. Upper Air Data: Radar: Snowfall Totals: Beach Park: 14.0" (High) Melrose Park: 14.0" (High) ORD: 12.9" RFD: 6.9" Interestingly, another "highlight" of the end of the Feb. 8-10, 2010 storm was the 3.8 Virgil earthquake in northeastern Illinois. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Illinois_earthquake

Chicago WX
reading this thread makes it seem like we see 10"+ events on the reg and lately we have. Officially at ORD... January 31-February 2, 2011: 21.2" February 9-10, 2010: 12.9" January 9-10, 2009: 12.0" February 13-14, 2007: 10.2" What's kind of funny is that the snowiest winter of the past 5, 2007-08, didn't have a 10"+ storm at ORD. Of course nothing beats the drought of 10"+ storms at ORD from Feb 1981 to Jan 1999. Though to be fair, MDW (as well as other locations in NE IL) saw a couple in that timeframe. Hoosier
thanks, we're on an absolute tear lately. The 80's/90's were pretty bad for big events (well up until the blizzard of 99). Edit: nevermind, just saw Chicagowx's post

Thundersnow12
12/26/09... something to add from this event...the +SN was also aided by a surface convergence boundary/wind shift that was orientated SW-NE across the LOT CWA and snowfall was enhanced and almost convective in nature wherever this boundary was as moved very slowly across the area. I had 2"/hr rates for several hours and picked up over 12" Look at the wind shift between ARR and DPA as it stalled over this area for several hours before moving into Dupage Co and eastward. Also, the thread from Eastern for this day, funny reading through the thread and remembering how we were kind of getting on LOT for not having any headlines out and then them FINALLY issuing a WSW after some of us already had 6" down. http://www.easternus...3/page__st__420 2"/hr rates at my house at this time
BeastFromTheEast
I also remember that storm producing some of the lightest and fluffiest snow that I have ever seen thanks to the insane ratios( 50:1 - 100:1). The stuff was literally like pixie dust.. Unique/ once in a life-time type event for sure..

This event probably my 3rd favorite winter event.

DVN raob sounding from 12z on the 19th from that event, 900mb-750mb layer a touch above freezing but im guessing shallow convection probably helped that.
