tmagan
December 1988 or 89 especially, minus the fluke Suffolk county snow event. I was just west of the rain/snow line for that event. In fact there was lightning over E. L.I. during that event.

phlwx
FWIW there are still noticeable differences at 500 between the two solutions. GFS has far, far less digging (540 dm height drops to south of Memphis on the Euro, drops to Central IL on the GFS). Less digging = less amplification and a less potent storm. The GFS looks like a front end nuisance slop event (freezing rain/sleet) to chilly rain that may end as snow...but if the GFS is right the whole "1"+ rain" meme that's been pushed by the newsies goes out the window since QPF is rather light overall. The Euro did trend towards less amplification, however between 12 and 0...

Grothar
I thought the mods were gonna crack down on the " winter cancel " posts? Seeing them a lot lately. I agree. Someone get s labeled wishing for a snow event as a weenie, then you have "winter cancel" statements and nothing happens. They should at least being using the warning system because it is in place now. No more chances-- they have been warned. Ji is in other threads and I guess they seem to think it is alright to state"winter cancel" all the time
