usedtobe
http://www.nws.noaa.gov/climate/ You don't have permission to access /climate/ on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. That looks like it is a site where someone stashed data and is now protected. You used to be able to see Rich Grumm's ongoing research at the state college forecast office but it is now protected. If you want climate data, go to the PSD site and you can look at years or get linear correlations. http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/correlation/ If you want to look at various years and see the anomalies http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/usclimdivs/ http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/composites/day/ http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/cgi-bin/data/composites/printpage.pl For monthly data on various teleconnection indices if you wnat ot look at things yourself, http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/data/climateindices/list/#WP If you are looking for the CPC data on various things or for their forecasts. http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/

isohume
Why does NCDC charge for the majority of climate data for non-NOAA employees? Ask yourself that!

Cory
Why does NCDC charge for the majority of climate data for non-NOAA employees? Ask yourself that! I pestered someone at NCDC awhile back and found out that Congress gave the Secretary of Commerce the authority to charge for the data to cover the costs of formatting, storage, and retrieval. I don't think it's right to charge taxpayers to access data that they already paid for. It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't charging so much money (thousands of dollars for some large datasets). Good find. I never knew and I agree its ridiculous to charge taxpayers additional for what they've already paid for. So formatting, storage and retrieval aren't already paid for? Isn't that their job? Is it contracted out? lol. Just weird really, but then again NCDC is weird.
wxjoe
FYI, there is maintenance going on for many NWS websites this weekend. I don't know for sure whether /climate is included, but I know MDL is- see the error page here: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/mdl My guess that this site being on nws.noaa.gov (the server being upgraded), that would be my guess. I could be wrong, of course. And in case the site is back up and someone is curious, here's the error page: Sunday evening update: Looks like the page is having problems. The page now says: We are currently experiencing technical difficulties. Sorry for the interruption. Error: CMS DB.
